Your role


Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, you will plan and organize the production of all digital, audio and visual content in the field, studios, newsroom and facilities of ICI Colombie-Britannique / Grand Nord.

this position, you will be the direct supervisor for the British Columbia operations team.

As such, you support management in achieving objectives and help create a management culture that is agile, positive and innovative.

You also provide technical and production guidance to program and content areas.

You collaborate with stakeholders and management to conceive, analyze and develop production methods and processes for meeting established content production requirements.

You are responsible for ensuring work adheres to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and program policies, standards and practices. There is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.


Key tasks:


  • Monitor the British Columbia operations team by reaching out to them regularly and holding meetings about their performance and development.
  • Help achieve the vision of an integrated operations team by taking part in planning and organizing the regular and special programming of ICI Colombie-Britannique / Grand-Nord and sharing technical and operational expertise.
  • Schedule, coordinate, assign and check the work of operations personnel, production resources, vehicles and facilities to bring the defined vision to life and meet established budget objectives.
  • Help set priorities and balance competing production and business requirements within budgetary restrictions and production deadlines.
  • Assert leadership and guide the operations, content development and daily news staff on workflows and the best means to implement field and station technology.
  • Collaborate with management on matters relating to hiring and discipline in a unionized environment.
  • In cooperation with management, identify, approve, coordinate and take part in training initiatives to meet staff needs and production requirements; implement and/or participate in the implementation of technical training for the entire team.
  • Work closely with local CBC operations teams and other CBC/Radio-Canada production centers to ensure production systems are kept in proper working order and production personnel receive proper and adequate technological support.
  • Help oversee all British Columbia fleet vehicles, including maintenance, assignment, booking, documentation and upkeep.
  • Oversee all field equipment, including ENG camera kits, multicontent field gathering kits and audio remote packages.
  • Cost and purchase any necessary equipment.

As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:

  • Perform all or part of the function or duties of equivalent or lower classifications.
  • Within delegated limits, hire staff for casual requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of departmental and program financial estimates, budgets and forecasts and help ensure they are on target.
  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years' experience in a directly related field.
  • Proven leadership skills in facilitating team collaboration.
  • Ability to lead meetings, projects, innovation and change.
  • Excellent understanding of the business and production aspects of programming and media production.
  • Creative approach to ensuring the development and implementation of new strategies, work methods and business practices.
  • Ability to establish strong business relationships with coworkers and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Solid command of French (working language). Knowledge of English is essential.
