Our team is looking for an IT Support Specialist to join our group.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and respond to support request tickets in Helpdesk queues.
  • Configuration and deployment of Microsoft Windows desktop and laptop computers.
  • Provide some support for Mac and Linux based desktops and laptops as required.
  • Assisting in the Account Provisioning systems, workflows, and procedures.
  • Support the
    TRIUMF Audio and Video systems and participate in reviews, planning, deployments, and maintenance of AV related solutions.
  • Provide desktop and laptop hardware recommendations directly to users and regularly maintain user support documentation and job aids.
  • Installation, configuration, administration, patching, performance tuning and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows servers and services.
  • Collaborate with other IS&T members regarding other platforms e.g., Linux, Mac OS.
  • Administration of Virtual Machine environments including setup and configuration.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 Admin Center, including support for Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, InTune, and Azure Active Directory.
  • Manage software licensing, computing hardware lifecycle management (from initial acquisition through to disposition), and the pool of devices for the use on a temporary basis.
  • Create and maintain clear and concise documentation for the group's internal use as well as for the
    TRIUMF community.
  • Participate in reviews and recommendations for improvements to services provided by the Windows and Desktop team.
  • May be required to respond to problems outside of normal working hours.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • This position involves extensive interaction with
    TRIUMF staff with a wide range of technical skills and business requirements. The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, to be empathetic to business client needs, to build strong relationships, and to work in a team environment is of high importance.
  • Good planning, organizing and time management skills, with an ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Effective problem solving and troubleshooting skills especially with desktop and laptop computers, printers, servers and services managed by the Windows and Desktop team.
  • A working knowledge of storage solutions, virtual hosting, databases, and back up technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server installation, patching, and performance tuning.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, MFA, DHCP and DNS; experience with the development of PowerShell scripts, and InTune would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of network concepts and exposure to network administration management (switches, routers, firewalls) would be desirable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


A bachelor's degree in computer science or other computer related field, and 3-5 years of relevant work experience with onsite service in a fast-paced environment and at least 3 years' experience with end user support.

Relevant certifications would enhance the incumbents' effectiveness in the position.
