This underground operation is located just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa in Northern Ontario.     Position: Project Geologist
    Reports to: Senior Mine Geologist
    Location: Dubreuilville, ON (Island Gold Mine)

    Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carry out geological/geotechnical reports, field inspections and mapping.
  • Collects, compiles, evaluates and interprets all project geological, geophysical and geochemical data.
  • Preparation of summary reports for the Senior Exploration Geologist on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • May oversee team(s) comprised of junior and student geologists as well as outside contractors.
  • Contributing to the preparation of program close-out and other technical, and assessment reports
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for newly discovered resources, provide project management and logistical support for exploration projects, and contribute to geological reports and documentation.
  • Development of short to medium-long term exploration objectives and strategies aligned with mine plan.
  • Interpret the assays result and produce/execute an exploration model.
  • Assist the mine operation meetings and the monthly safety meeting.
  • Create, verify, and implement procedures for Mine Geology department.
  • Verify that the QA/QC is properly respected in the sampling process, drilling, or any other activity.
  • Ensures best practices for logging, sampling, and database management are followed.
  • Work in close collaboration with contractors and any other persons placed under their responsibility.
  • All other tasks related to the mine exploration programs in the Island Gold Mine area as required by their supervisor.
  • Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post secondary education in Geology or Earth Science
  • 3-5 years of experience in a mining environment with 1-2 years in Production Geology, an asset.
  • Strong communication, computing, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility/Adaptability, Analytical Skills, Safety
  • Experience in logging of diamond drilling programs and field mapping.
  • Understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments.
  • Experience with Datamine, Acquire and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform and communicate effectively within a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Registered as a Geologist in Training (GIT) or Professional Geologist (P.Geo) desirable.
  • Working Conditions:

  • 7x7 work schedule
  • Office, surface and underground work environment.
  • Physical requirements:

  • May be required to manipulate core boxes and sample bags which can weigh 40-50 pounds.
  • Periodic travel underground.
  • Has obtained the necessary certifications to work in an underground mine environment.
