Role Overview:

We are looking for a BI and Reporting Analyst to join our Accounting team.

Reporting to the Director of Finance Systems, the BI and Reporting Analyst, will play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of insights and dashboards to illuminate our enterprise wide KPIs and objectives and key results.

Collaborating with department heads, and cross-functional teams, the incumbent will ensure that our strategic objectives are transparent and data-driven, facilitating informed decision-making at every level.


We aim to establish a company-wide Reporting and Analytics powerhouse function that will significantly help the Cassels team to reach our goals.

You will prepare various reports from our Practice Management (PM) system, and present insights based on analyses, key metrics trending and quantified risks and opportunities.

Furthermore, you will perform regular Operational reporting, foster strong working relationships with various stakeholders.


Reporting and Insights:

  • Address periodic business insights requirements by delivering existing and enhanced Practice Management reporting KPIs to the business and central teams through various finance systems (3E, Power BI).
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define requirements, specifications, and business rules for Power BI reports. Create business reports that provide insights into key data points. Support various practice group heads and communicate the results of data analysis to relevant stakeholders.
  • Leverage data to drive the business strategy, using data insights and advanced analytics to identify issues and inefficiencies in the current BI landscape and creating innovative and scalable solutions for business and clinical users.
  • Develop analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights related to lawyer financial performance, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics. Support firmwide business intelligence reports, solutions, and client & lawyer dashboards to support strategic management decisions.
  • Produce specialized reporting packages, dashboards, and scorecards for Business Units. Assist in the development of partner compensation models, including assisting the training for partners in our new partner dashboard tool. Promote process improvements by using financial systems to reduce manual workload and enhance work efficiency through the implementation of new tools as applicable.
  • Aid in process improvements within the Finance function, through solutions identification and user training and development. Participate in a working team on firmwide system and report development, deployment, and enhancements.
  • Provide support for ad hoc reporting requests by modelling data for visualization and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance Systems to design and develop various BI solutions. Identify opportunities for integration with our Enterprise Practice Management system to address information needs within Finance and other business units, including reports and security access.
  • Assist the Finance Systems team with the implementation of initiatives in support of overall business/function strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Computer Science required, ideally with a major in Accounting.
  • 2 to 5 years work experience in a Professional Services environment (preferably Law) is considered a plus.
  • Advance level skills in data analysis tools such as Microsoft SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Prior experience with 3E or other ERP systems is a plus.
  • Full cycle EPM/CPM implementation experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong mix of business and functional knowledge related to EPM/CPM processes with a proven ability to communicate business requirements and understand the implications on the functional design
  • Strong knowledge of business fundamentals and financial acumen, with exceptional communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
