    Job Summary

    The Fleet Services Garage - Mechanic A (Mobile Mechanic) is responsible for performing all repairs, servicing and up fitting on all types of vehicles.

    The role completes the vehicle daily inspection form and driver's daily logs and submits them to the compliance office on a monthly basis.

    The incumbent also completes the National Safety Code (NSC) training every 3 years.
    Major Responsibilities


    • Perform minor and major repairs, servicing and up fitting on all types of vehicles (cars, light truck, medium and heavy trucks, and truck trailers) including mounted vehicle attachments (cranes, Hirail, and gensets) and material handling equipment
    • Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, and other vehicle repair tools to perform repairs
    • Record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures
    • Assist at the Fleet Management Garage in times of operational needs
    • Stock the necessary parts in the service vehicle to do the job and keep inventory as required to perform the necessary repairs in the field
    • When on duty, will carry a cell phone and remain available at all times for the end user or garage supervisor
    • Complete a Mobile Mechanic Weekly Planner and submit it to the Garage Supervisor for review prior to the following scheduled workweek
    • Keep track and submit all On Company Expenses (OCS) at latest by the end of the month
    • Generate repair orders through the Repair Authorization Centre (RAC).
    • Ensure that all parts and labour times are documented on repair orders
    • Ensure that all repair orders are completed and submitted to the Garage Supervisor for review by the end of every work cycle
    • Other duties as assigned
    Working Conditions

    The mobile mechanic is expected to perform PMH inspections and general repairs (as per duties) across home based province however not limited to.

    Outside work at terminals, in the field and shop environment will be required. Prolonged stay away from home when performing fieldwork may be required.
    Requirements


    • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Heavy-Duty or Commercial Transport repair trade
    • Heavy Duty (HD) Red Seal Certification
    • Automotive Red Seal Certification
    • Additional Mechanic Certification
    • Valid Provincial driver's licence
    • Must be able to pass the current Mechanic "A" test
    • Capable of certifying company equipment in accordance with Provincial and regulatory standards
    • Must be capable of servicing and repairing various types of Hirail equipment
    • Air endorsement and drivers license class upgrade
    • Capable of operating all types of vehicles and equipment serviced
    • Required to have own basic hand tools sufficient to perform repairs and servicing to all types of fleet equipment
    • Must be able to work either inside or outside at the terminal and away from the home base.
    *Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
    Work Schedule


    • The work schedule will be 5 days on 2 days off or 8 days on and 6 days off depending on operational needs.
    • Work schedules will be pre-determined & approved by supervisor prior to start of work shift.
    • Fleet Management Garage will be the home base and reporting location at the beginning & end of each work block.
    Vehicle


    • The service vehicle will be a NSC vehicle. Mobile mechanic will be responsible to complete the vehicle daily inspection form and driver's daily logs and submit the driver's logs to the compliance office by the end of month.
    • Mobile mechanic will be responsible to complete the NSC training every 3 years.
    • Mobile mechanic will be responsible to follow the CN Vehicle Use Policy at all times when operating a CN vehicle.
    • Work truck will be stationed at the Fleet Management garage
