Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Program promotion and recruitment of participants (approx 1012 participants for each round of programming which will last 8 weeks).
  • Adherence to health and safety guidelines provided by the provincial government related to Covid19 and other public health matters.
  • Liaison with partner organizations including Nanaimo Foodshare, Island Health, Tillicum Lelum, Nanaimo Multicultural Society, Strongstarts, Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre, and Loaves and Fishes.
  • Management of volunteers to help with assembling meal kits and delivery and host inperson cooking workshops.
  • Orientation of participants to the program while creating a fun and welcoming environment.
  • Facilitation of all aspects of the program including recipe selection, curriculum planning, development of evidencebased nutritional resources, teaching cooking skills, purchasing program supplies, and food within the program budget, and providing regular program evaluations and reports.
  • Hosting inperson workshops, including at Strongstarts and creating online videos to share healthy eating tips and easy recipe demonstrations.
  • Documenting program activities by sending brief biweekly reports to the executive director which will be shared with the Board of Directors.
  • Evaluating the programs by documenting regular feedback from participants and writing program reports.
  • Keeping records of cooking group statistics (ie # participants, # of cooking workshops, # of meals handed out etc).
  • Maintaining confidentiality of program participants and following NCK privacy protocols.
  • Submitting a biweekly summary of hours worked, mileage, program expenses, and receipts as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Excellent cooking skills, evidence based nutritional knowledge, and food safe handling skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with marginalized people
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to multitask, attention to detail is important
  • Good computer skills and ability to use google docs
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple areas of responsibility, take initiative, and prioritize accordingly
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to set own priorities
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality
  • Access to own vehicle for pick up and delivery of food, mileage will be paid
  • Attention to detail with demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records
  • Friendly, committed, reliable, flexible
  • Food Safe Certificate is required
  • A valid First Aid Certificate is required
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position including the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Additional Requisites/Assets:


  • Experience working in a nonprofit
  • A passion for all aspects of cooking and healthy eating
  • Experience facilitating community kitchens or other food related programs

From $23.00 per hour

Education:


  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
