What is Shad Canada?:


Shad Canada is a registered Canadian charity that empowers exceptional high school students - at a pivotal point in their education - to recognize their own capabilities and explore the extraordinary potential as tomorrow's leaders and changemakers.

Founded in 1980, Shad Canada is based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Annually, the charity provides an opportunity for 1000+ students across Canada and internationally to attend a month-long summer program focused on STEAM.

Since its inception, Shad Canada has more than 20,000 alumni.

Shad is a STEAM and entrepreneurship program for students in grades 10 and 11.

During the immersive month-long program, students live on campus and participate in a real-world design challenge that prepares them to take on social and economic challenges.

Shad's program is transformational and lifechanging. Put simply, the program exists to empower exceptional youth to make the world a better place.

Must be available from June 25th - July 30th, 2023
The Shad 2023 program runs Sunday July 2- 28, 2023


What is a Faculty Member?:


Faculty members are responsible for one of the academic areas of the program: engineering/technology, entrepreneurship, information and communication technologies, mathematics or the sciences.

In addition eachFaculty will offer one or more seminars or workshops and assist the Program Director with their duties as required.

The Faculty position provides a great opportunity for a post-secondary educator who is passionate about community building and developing high potential youth.

What are the expectations for a Faculty Member?

  • The responsibilities of running the Design and Entrepreneurship (DE) project to Shads including but not limited to
  • Develop contents and templates for the DE sessions
  • Deliver the DE sessions
  • Create design groups (with the support from the Program Director(s))
  • Assign deliverables to design groups
  • Coordinate workshops such as venture and mentor panels
  • Secure judges for the final DE pitch competition
  • Run DE pitch competition and awards ceremony
  • Oversee DE work periods
  • Train Program Assistants to help with Design Group support and accountability checks
  • Support the Program Director(s)
  • Monitor and support participant's engagement, interaction, performance behavior; report to and consult with the Program Director regarding any concerns
  • Be available for consultation with participants during the program
  • Bring to the program the Faculty Member's unique personal interests, talents, and enthusiasm
  • Ensure risk management frameworks and policies are being followed at all times within the program by participants
  • Prepare a final report after the program ends that highlights areas of strength, need and next steps for the program

How do I apply?:


Salary:
$4,100 plus food and board


  • All Laurier employees and students are required to comply with the University's _Covid19 mandatory vaccination policy_. _Effective May 1st, _Wilfrid Laurier University will pause its proof of vaccination requirements.
