Your role
CBC is looking for a journalist based in Quebec City.
You will be part of the action, in the field, filing live updates using audio, video and photos on breaking and developing stories.
You are a motivated, bilingual self-starter prepared to spend most of your time out of the newsroom, working independently to turn stories around quickly to bring the CBC audience the news they need to know.
We are looking for an excellent journalist who demonstrates exceptional skill in going beyond the headlines to bring more depth and context to CBC news.
In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful and immediate, and resonate with the communities we serve.
Note:
The Journalist shift will be from 9-5 however, the journalist must also be able to work flexible hours, and possibly weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Cover the Englishspeaking communities across Quebec.
- Keep up with current events
- Propose and receive topics for news stories
- Gather and tell stories on current affairs radio programming
- Ability to broadcast live from the field
- Cover breaking news for all platforms (radio, online, TV)
- File directly to our digital properties (including social media) as needed
- Research, write scripts and book guests to be interviewed by a radio program host
- File simple produced video packages from the field
- File packaged items and clips for radio
- Drive outreach, engagement and programming to connect with existing and potential audiences in the Quebec City and surrounding areas.
- Inform newsroom coordinators of any event requiring immediate broadcasting or special treatment
- On request, review the texts of other journalists and contribute to their reports
- Drive a news vehicle
Job requirements:
A) Knowledge
- A Bachelor's degree in Journalism.
- A minimum of three (3) years of journalism experience or equivalent.
b) Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of current events. Specifically, a deep knowledge of Englishspeaking communities in the Quebec City area and surrounding areas.
- Solid command of communication techniques specific to the medium (radio, television or new media) as well as interview techniques.
- Must possess a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
- Knowledge of CBC's journalistic standards and practices.
- Initiative.
- Comfortable on air. Strong Broadcast skills.
- Innovative with a command of new technology.
- Able to analyze, synthesize and think critically.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Advanced level for English (reading/writing/speaking).
- Good spoken French and French comprehension.
- Excellent understanding and use of social media.
- Must be flexible to work all shifts and irregular hours, depending on the assignment.
- Complete an assignment.
