Position purpose:


Reporting to the Manager of the Center for Innovative Education and Simulation in Nursing (CIESN), the facilitator develops and oversees learning experiences in the Simulation Laboratories.

The facilitator collaborates with faculty teaching theory and clinical courses to develop and modify simulation scenarios to meet the curricular requirements of novice to advanced students in nursing and in interprofessional learning.

To achieve a pedagogically sound environment for complex learning to occur, this Registered Nurse, who is an expert in both nursing practice and education, participates as a team member with other laboratory support staff in providing an effective learning environment, and supervises and debriefs students in complex clinical scenarios.


This position requires to work varied working hours which can go sometimes from 8: 00 a.m to 8 p.m and towork certain weekend according to the students time registered in the nursing sciences program.

This is a 13-month temporary assignment or contract for a maternity leave replacement.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Instructional activities:
Teaches up to six (6) credits of clinical laboratory course content. Supervises, supports and evaluates students during practice and debriefing of specific clinical scenarios.

Liaises with clinical instructors in the evaluation of individual students, develops and supervises simulation based remediation for students who may be at risk of clinical failure.


Coordination of laboratory experiences:
Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the teaching laboratories for which the incumbent is responsible.

Liaises with clinical course coordinators to integrate simulations into courses and ensure effective use of labs to achieve learning outcomes of the course.

Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are in place and simulators are appropriately programmed before teaching sessions begin.


Educational development:

Consults with professors and curriculum committee to develop low, medium or high fidelity simulation scenarios that reflect the requirements of the different levels of the curricula of nursing programs.

Helps to develop a portfolio of simulation scenarios appropriate for different levels of students in nursing and interprofessional learning sessions.

Plans with course coordinators how simulation experiences will be integrated into specific courses and scheduled into the term.

Creates a positive learning environment, working with the Manager of the Center for Innovative Education and Simulation in Nursing to develop and revise policies for student experiences in the laboratories.


What you will bring:

Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing Sciences.

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Clinical and laboratory teaching experience.

Knowledge of simulation at low, medium, and high degrees of fidelity.

Knowledge of computers.

Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and negotiation skills.
