$27+ (commensurate with experience), subcontractor or employer/employee relationship can be accommodated

Work Schedule:
Variable, depending on workload (8-30 hours/week)

Work Location:
Flexible. Some travel may be required.

Contract Timeline:
April March 2024, with the possibility of extension


Position Description:

The BC Conservation Foundation is looking for an energetic, stewardship

This is currently a part-time grant-funded position.

Funding is 100 % secured for and 50 % secured for You will be responsible for securing additional funding for the coordinator position and the provincial program.

This is a challenging position but provides flexibility in the work schedule and lots of opportunity to develop the program in many ways


Duties:


Program coordination:


  • Head the provincial Got Bats? program including liaison between regional coordinators and the advisory board and government project partners (WLRS, Wildlife Health Program)
- ensure regional projects are on track and deliverables are meeting timelines, and ensure conservation efforts are complementary and coordinated at the provincial scale

  • Expand and maintain relationships with funders, partner organizations, key stakeholders, other Canadian community bat programs, and provincial and national working groups
  • Plan and facilitate meetings as needed
  • Write funding proposals and complete reporting to maintain current initiatives and develop new initiatives

Manage and develop program content:


  • Promote BC Annual Bat Count, Living with Bats, Batfriendly Communities, and managing in bats in buildings according to established best management practices
  • Develop updated protocols for existing communityscience initiatives; update website as needed
  • Coordinate data submissions from regions and work with WLRS on data analysis and reporting
  • Coordinate reporting on deliverables across all regions
  • Essential Qualifications

Bats and stewardship:


  • Experience working with bats
  • Experience with stewardship and/or citizen science programs
  • Familiarity with the BC Community Bat Program
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in one of the following areas or a related field:
  • business, planning, management or communications with a strong demonstrated interest or experience in nature conservation; or
- natural sciences, conservation biology, biology or environmental studies, with a strong demonstrated interest or experience in organizational management.

  • Minimum 2 years experience in one of the above fields

Project management:


  • Evidence of strong facilitation, collaboration and oral communication skills
  • Selfstarter, able to plan and direct your own work, work independently without supervision but also in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement projects
  • Contract administration skills
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of software, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point programs

Desirable Qualifications:


Bats and Stewardship:


  • Masters of Science in a related field
  • Knowledge of conservation issues around bats in BC and existing key messages for the public
  • Experience working with Local Governments
  • Knowledge of conservation partners and contacts within the conservation field

Project management:


  • Fundraising, grant writing, grant management, reporting experience
  • Experience speaking with press / reporters
