    Public Health Nurse Role

    This role involves providing nursing services within the framework of the Population Health/Health Promotion Model. The Public Health Nurse will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, epidemiology, community development, primary health care, public health ethics primary and secondary prevention strategies.


    The successful candidate will translate knowledge from the health and social sciences to support healthy behaviors in diverse individuals, families, and population groups through universal and targeted interventions. They will plan organize implement evaluate heath services for individuals families groups communities schools homes outreach locations immunize children adults against vaccine preventable disease use principles disease process investigate follow up communicable diseases established policies protocols provide client prenatal postnatal family assessments counseling consultation service coordination follow up support referral promote healthy child development effective parenting practices early identification intervention developmental concerns collaborate interdisciplinary intersectoral teams formal presentations educational programs selected population groups provide information counseling referral lifestyle issues cultural language barriers comprehensive school health reproductive safety injury prevention clinical school home community outreach settings promote behavior change healthy lifestyle encourage personal responsibility promotes identify address needed strengths establishes relationships partnerships professionals members agencies informs quality life wellness advocates healthy policy maintains related records documents observations outcomes statistics reports standards procedures contributes program practice identifies needs actively participates interdisciplinary intersectoral teams committees strategic planning processes determinants best practice literature current nursing theory community assessment provides preceptorship mentorship experiences students participates orientation mentoring new professionals feedback progress promoting optimal client support performs related duties assigned.
