    The Financial and Economic Analytics (FEA) team plays a crucial role in our organization. They are responsible for developing analytics and reports related to economic monitoring, analysis, and operational metrics.     The Opportunity:

  • Overall responsibility and accountability for producing the monthly operations report, that provides insight on the status, costs, and trends of injured worker claims covered under WCB insurance policies. This includes coordinating and directing the research and analysis activities that support the findings presented, along with working with senior operations management on a regular basis to ensure topics stay relevant, significant, and informative.
  • Advise senior management and directors on forecast claim cost variances and issues.
  • Make recommendations to the directors and managers of Customer Service, and WCB senior management, leveraging rigorous research outcomes.
  • Engage in comprehensive research to proactively assess and analyze the financial implications, benefits, and service effects of WCB policies and practices.
  • Investigate and evaluate complex issues and hypotheses relative to key cost issues or targeted benefit groups.
  • Promote management understanding of emerging operational trends, and the impact of alternative policies on costs.
  • Deliver expert analysis and recommendations to Customer Service directors and managers, focusing on essential performance metrics.
  • Participate in ad hoc meetings with senior executives, cross-functional project teams, and relevant stakeholder groups as necessary.
  • Independently or in consultation with stakeholders organize research undertakings, which involves the collection, compilation, analysis, and distribution of information.
  • Craft concise and impactful summary reports summarizing research findings in a clear non-technical manner.
  • Collaborate with other team members, departments, or business units in the development of the key documents, such as the annual Budget and the Financial Plan.
  • Design, analyze, and effectively employ complex computer programs, leveraging statistical and quantitative methodologies for both internal and external data reporting and analysis.
  • Your experience and skills:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science with a major in statistics, mathematics, or another business-related quantitative field. Graduate level education is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience including applying statistical methods and models in support of decision-making activities.
  • Experience with economic forecasting would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with data and statistical analysis tools is necessary (python preferred).
  • Proficiency with data extraction and reporting tools is essential, SQL preferred.
  • Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills are required to build effective working relationships with key clients including senior management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with effective project management skills are essential.
  • Ability to integrate technical expertise with strong conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Expertise in preparing reports and presentations for use by a general audience.
  • Ability to train, monitor and provide peer leadership to other members within the Financial & Economic Analytics team and in other departments.
  • An understanding of Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act, Workers' Compensation Act and related regulations, policies, and procedures, would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in a self-directed team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to remain composed when faced with unexpected problems and work effectively through stressful situations.

    SALARY: $87,363.00 to $102,765.00/year (Salary Grade 12)
