- Assist in planning, carrying out, and assessing developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the Centre's philosophy, under the guidance of lead educators.
- Support the provision of a balanced daily schedule of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities.
- Enrich the learning environment with diverse activities including narrative storytelling, music education, and creative arts.
- Help clean and sanitize equipment, toys, and materials according to daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that encourage extended conversations.
- Communicate with parents daily about their child's day, as directed and in collaboration with other staff.
- Use a variety of teaching techniques including storytelling, modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing, as part of the educator team.
- Encourage and assist children to practice self-help skills each day.
- Participate as an assistant in short- and long-term planning, evaluation, and staff program reviews.
- Observe and help monitor children's play activities, reporting observations to lead staff as needed.
- Assist in keeping records on children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals, and medication administered.
- Support in preparing and serving food for children, help dress children, and change diapers as required.
- Understand and consistently follow the Centre's Policy and Procedures manual as an assistant team member.
- 1-7 months of proven experience in an early childhood education setting;
- College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year (Completion of an Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate program or related coursework in early childhood education)
- Licence to practice in BC as an ECE Assistant (ECE level 1);
- CPR and First Aid Certificate (valid or intent to obtain);
- Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks, Attention to detail, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling
- Criminal Record Check will be conducted.
