Intensive Services Child and Youth Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION

Youth Worker


General Scope

As part of the HPC team, the Intensive Services Child and Youth Worker will employ evidence informed clinical practices and adhere to the Centre's values and philosophies to support children/youth and their caregivers involved with either Counselling and Therapy or Timely Access Services.


In collaboration with the assigned Mental Health Therapist, this staff will be responsible for the development and implementation of an assessment/treatment plan.

As with all assessment/treatment child, youth and caregivers are central to this process.


Job Duties

  • Participates and contributes to the Centre's teams
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of an assessment/treatment plan in collaboration with assigned Mental Health Therapist.
  • Employs interventions that promote healthy relationship development, adaptive coping skills and self regulation
  • Collaborates with formal and informal supports as appropriate to the plan
  • Regularly reviews progress, goals and overall treatment plan with child, youth and caregiver
  • Engages in regular consultation and collaboration with the assigned Mental Health Therapist
  • Participates in clinical interventions in a variety of setting including but not limited to office, school, home and community settings
  • Complies with report/documentation expectations of the Centre
  • Participates in Centre evaluation practices
  • Participates in Ministry/Agency monitoring, as required
  • Participates in appropriate professional development
  • Complies with the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience and Skills

  • College diplomapreferred Child and Care Worker Diploma or related area of study
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in related field
  • Experience with an electronic data system and record keeping

  • Valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle including adequate insurance to transport clients
  • Respect for all aspects of confidentiality

Effort & Working Conditions
Physical Effort and Environment

  • Work can have a physical component depending on the treatment needs of the child, youth and caregiver including but not limited to activities such as yoga and child centred play
  • At certain times the Intensive Child and Youth Worker may have to work in excess of their normal work week to meet the needs of child, youth and caregiver in the program
Mental Effort and Environment

  • The work is performed in a variety of locations some with many distractions thus requiring focus and professionalism to balance the treatment and safety needs of all involved
  • The work requires the employee to utilise skills and training and to maintain regulation during emotionally heightened circumstances

Youth Justice Committee Co-ordinator

General Scope

As part of the HPC team, the Youth Justice Committee Co-ordinator will respect evidence informed clinical practices and adhere to the Centre's values and philosophies to support youth involved with the youth justice system, their caregivers and community members.


This staff will be responsible to coordinate a conference for youth in conflict with the law and their caregivers and victims with trained community volunteers.

The goal of this conference is for participants to develop measures that will hold the youth accountable for their offending behaviour, address harm to victim and the community at large and establish goals to make amends.

Youth, caregivers and community members are central to this process.


Job Duties

  • Participates and contributes to the Centre's teams
  • Receive referrals from the Crown Attorney directly
  • Contacts youth and their caregiver to complete intake and discuss the conference process
  • Contacts victims to identify their desired outcome, provide information on the conference process and available supports
  • Coordinates the conference process with program volunteers, youth, caregiver and victim following the
Youth Justice Committee Protocol

  • Supports and monitors the implementation of the plan for amends developed through the Youth Justice
Conference

  • Facilitates interventions that promote healthy relationship development, adaptive coping skills and self regulation
  • Makes referrals to internal and external resources as appropriate
  • Collaborates with formal and informal supports as appropriate
  • Engages in regular consultation and collaboration with the referring Crown Attorney
