    Reportingto the Director of Student Experience, the Manager, Learning Services is responsiblefor providing leadership to the Learning Services team at NAIT. This team offers assistance to students to enhancetheir learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The roleinvolves collaborating with various programs to assist instructors inaccommodating students with diverse learning needs, as well as aiding studentsin achieving academic success and overcoming learning obstacles.

    Key responsibilitiesinclude overseeing staff, managing workflow, addressing disciplinary matters,conducting performance assessments, establishing policies and guidelines,preparing and managing budgets, and developing business plans for all facets ofLearning Services. This encompasses providing support in student accommodationadvising, delivering materials in alternative formats, coordinating exams,facilitating CART services, interpreting sign language, arranging note-takingassistance, offering learning strategies, and any other necessary services. Theideal candidate demonstrates strong collaborative skills by engaging withleaders from other student-oriented services to comprehend the wider scope ofstudent needs and identify potential avenues for support.

    KeyResponsibilities:

  • Provides strategic visioning and leadership to theLearning Services teams
  • Manages engagement with instructors, students, andcommunity to further advance mandate of supporting student learning experience.
  • Provides leadership that will identify campus-widestrategic initiatives and innovations, develop proposals and suggestprioritizations on learning support initiatives:
  • Advises on and supports currentcampus-wide learning support initiatives
  • Initiates new procedures andinnovative ways of working with our faculty who must support students withlearning differences
  • Initiates new procedures andinnovative ways of supporting our students with specific and unique learningneeds
  • Supports a case management approachto support students who have specific government funding due to their learningneeds.
  • Researches, analyzes, evaluates andrecommends emerging practices in working with students to meet diverse learningneeds
  • Fosters teamwork and collaborationamong a diverse group of skilled faculty, staff, students and administrators
  • Provides project leadership onprojects assigned to learning services
  • Keeps abreast of research, trends, and innovations inpedagogy (in face-to-face, blended, and online education) from a learnerperspective, as well as research and trends on learning support.
  • HR and Finance: budgetary management, staff planningand recruitment
  • Works directly with Associate Deans to createmechanisms of support for faculty, program and school leadership to ensure thatNAIT is best positioned for removing barriers to learning.
  • External communications: Works with governmentagencies, reporting on the government grant revenues received
  • Relevant communication with other post-secondaryinstitutions, the Post Secondary Accessibility Disability Resource Association(PADRA), secondary schools, disability-related organizations and communityorganizations.

  • Knowledge of assessment for learning disabilities,intake procedures, case management, accommodation procedures, referral andsupport processes.
  • Knowledge of Human Rights Legislation, knowledgeof funding sources and processes; FOIP
  • General understanding of change leadership and socialchange theory and models (Disability Rights movement, Social Model ofDisability, Social-political Model of Disability, Social Justice Theory,Universal Design Theory and Principles, Disability Studies, and AppreciativeInquiry.)
  • Excellent verbal andwritten communication
  • Ability to communicatecomplex concepts and ideas in a compelling way
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree -preferably in gender studies, social justice, sociology, political science, or otherrelated field.
  • Master's degreepreferred.
  • Significant relatedprofessional experience
  • Incumbent must be very familiar with Duty toAccommodate, NAIT Academic Regulations, admissions policies and programinformation, accommodations, technologies, and universal design concepts
  • Remuneration : $96, $ 127,657.66 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
