UAP's Strategy & Growth team is a collaborative, high-performing and inclusive group responsible for maximizing value through optimization, growth and transformation, empowering the organization to think innovatively and differently through trusted strategic advisory and partnership.

This team's scope is for all Canadian banners, including NAPA Auto Parts, CMAX, Altrom/Auto-Camping, Traction, TW, and Cadel.


Reporting to the Director, Strategy & Insights, the incumbent will be responsible for championing the planning, monitoring, reporting and governance processes for our enterprise strategic initiatives portfolio, engaging with company executives and leaders on a regular basis.

In addition, this position will be responsible for enabling successful execution of UAP's sustainability framework and roadmap.


This role will partner with the business to ensure successful delivery of key enterprise priorities, through planning and governance processes across all regions and departments.

This includes collaborating in developing multi-year plans, supporting and analyzing business cases, monitoring the execution of initiatives and integrating process improvements.

A high-level of project management, critical thinking and agility to manage multiple tasks, will be required to be successful.


Job Description:


Strategic Initiatives Responsibilities (60%):

  • Lead the UAP portfolio planning exercise by developing strategic/business plans based on prioritized projects, considering project dependencies, strategic and financial value, and resourcing requirements; partner with the IT PMO to ensure overall alignment and global visibility of UAP's portfolio.
  • Manage and monitor the progress of the initiative portfolio and share the results with UAP's executive Strategic Planning Committee on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Ensure the portfolio's projects are delivered on time, on budget and deliver planned benefits, with high quality; identify and resolve issues within the portfolio, in collaboration with leaders and/or other business stakeholders.
  • Monitor the performance of the portfolio and make the necessary changes to recover, rescope, cancel or launch new projects; in addition, manage the intake pipeline of ideas, synergize with other similar projects and recommend initiatives for launch/planning.
  • Review, prepare or validate project status reports as well as steering committees' and project gate meetings' documents.
  • Champion the UAP portfolio management framework, including its standards and practices; continuously implement and manage changes to the portfolio management methodology and framework.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships and relationships with regional and department teams to support the execution and monitoring of initiatives.

Sustainability & ESG Responsibilities (40%):

  • Partner with the executive sponsors and material topic owners to manage the execution and delivery of UAP's ESG framework, including managing deliverables and ensuring milestones are achieved; ensure initiatives are aligned with UAP's company strategy and execution.
  • Collaborate with executives sponsors and material topic owners to assess, develop or measure sustainability solutions, methodologies, or offerings
  • Collaborate with each material topic owner in identifying measurement principles; develop and manage data governance if needed, tracking and reporting of sustainability KPIs, create a dashboard and own ongoing maintenance/updates.
  • Support sustainability communication initiatives by providing status, data or insight
  • ESG roadmap progress.

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in Business, Finance or a similar discipline; PMP certification is a requirement of the role.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategy, strategic management and/or project/portfolio management; ideally, individual would have previous exposure to and involvement with sustainability/ESG initiatives.
  • A minimum of 35 years of experience in various roles of project and/or portfolio management, including as a Project Manager for midtolarge scale projects.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbally and in writing, and ability to build effective and collaborative business relationships; ideally, the individual will be bilingual in
    French and English, both oral and written.
  • Ability to enhance outcomes through strategic and value managementfocused mindset, critical thinking capability and business improvement leadership; in addition, the person should have strong problem solving, analysis and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (including Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint), project and portfolio management software/tools and ability to utilize automated functionality/tools to create efficiencies.
  • Strong business knowledge in the areas of automotive, distribution, supply chain/logistics and/or retail management
