Description

Accountability
The Environmental Compliance Officer shall, under the direction of the Environmental Manager(s), be responsible for monitoring and managing the implementation of the Environmental Aspects of the Project on a daily basis to confirm compliance with:

  • The commitments of the Environmental Reference Documents;
  • Environmental Permits, Licences and Approvals;
  • All plans, reports, and Additional Environmental Reports implemented for the project; and
  • Managing all compliance related issues associated with the Project on a daytoday basis.

Responsibility

  • Oversee compliance with all project requirements (for all Project segments) including the project agreement, environmental assessment, permits, licenses, approvals and applicable environmental law
  • Performs field inspections, surveys and walk downs of environment related activities to assure field activities, conditions and results correspond with the environmental controls implemented
  • Prepare reports summarizing environmental issues and deficiencies and associated corrective and preventative measures in coordination with the Environmental Leads of each Segment.
  • Liaise with the environmental team and attend meetings to provide updates to the client
  • Identifies and reports environmental issues and concerns to the Environmental Manager and recommends appropriate corrective actions
  • Identifies opportunities for continual improvement within the context of project execution and works with the Environmental Manager to develop and implement proactive strategies
  • Responsible for the implementation of a variety of environmental checklists and reports as per contractual requirements in coordination with the Environmental Leads of each Segment

Education

  • Diploma or a Bachelor or advanced degree from a recognized postsecondary institution in an environmental related discipline (ecology/biology/environmental science)

Experience
A minimum of five years of experience conducting environmental inspections, monitoring and compliance;

  • Experience with similar projects in Ontario
  • Experience in environmental monitoring, oversight, and/or reporting

Competencies & Skills

  • Knowledge of methods, approaches, and best management practices related to environmental inspections, including experience with the MTO Construction Administration and Inspection Task Manual, dated April 2005, and as amended from time to time; and
  • Knowledge of Ontario's Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario);
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills.
  • Building effective teams, collaboration, and promoting a teamwork culture.
  • Perform effectively in a fastpaced, startup environment comfortable to act with uncertainty and able to quickly and effectively create new systems, policies and procedures with limited resources for quality and timely implementation
