GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Building Services, the Plan Examiner 2 performs technical and administrative

on technical, regulatory and Building & Plumbing Code requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service & Community Planning Support

  • Contributes to the success of our team, creation of our community, and delivering outstanding customer service by

  • Follows the District of Squamish's Customer Service Guidelines to ensure the Delivery of Outstanding Service.
  • Provides information to clients regarding appropriate building code, sign permits, business licenses and other
information related to development.

District processes.***- Provides Code-related technical support and guidance to the Community Planning and Infrastructure Team

(Planning, Building, Engineering).


Plan Review and Building Permit Applications

  • Responsible for the plan review of commercial, industrial, apartment and other residential buildings to ensure
compliance with the provincial building code and municipal regulations/bylaws.

  • Calculates permit fees and enters pertinent information into computer system.
  • Inspects work in progress at intervals sufficient to ensure work is done in compliance with the approved design on as
needed basis.

  • Researches and responds to technical and procedural inquiries from the general public and staff; provides
recommendations on bylaws and BC Building Code regulation interpretations and participates in Building Code

implementation or Bylaw update processes.

  • Communicates design and construction deficiencies to architects, engineers, designers and project managers and
ensures steps are taken to correct such items.

  • Maintains current working knowledge of all appropriate legislation, e.g., bylaws, provincial codes, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, BC Building Code, bylaws, and other

  • Considerable knowledge of relevant bylaws, regulations, codes, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of municipal records management policies and procedures.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting building construction plans and drawings.
Excellent interpersonal and

communications skills and ability to deal with people in a professional manner.

  • Strong decisionmaking skills and sound judgement.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office including MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge of Tempest/Prospero considered an asset.

  • Ability to use tact when dealing effectively with developers, contractors, homeowners and other members of the
public.

  • Ability to read plans, specifications and technical drawings, and the ability to understand technical data and to
suggest corrections and changes where required.

  • Ability to use the Geographic Information System (GIS).

REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Possession of a valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license with a safe driving record
  • Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering Technology or other relevant discipline, from a recognized educational
institution.

  • Possession of a Level 3 certification of the Building Officials Association of BC along with experience in the municipal
field or building construction industry is preferred.
OR

  • Level 2 certification of the Building Officials Association of BC and experience in the municipal field or building
construction industry, with an expectation that the incumbent is working towards their Level 3 certification.

AND

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Salary:
$45.52 per hour***This is a Union position within the Collective Agreement of CUPE Local 2269 and the District of Squamish.
