NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of critical components for aerospace and defense applications, including nuclear pressure vessel components and engine thrust links. Our commitment to excellence extends through our commercial aerospace and military aircraft projects.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Nuclear Component Assembler to support the precision assembly of End Fitting Details for CANDU reactors. This role involves working with highly specialized components under strict quality control and nuclear regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble End Fitting components (Liner Tube, BAR, Seal Insert etc.) according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications specific to CANDU reactor designs.
- Interpret technical documentation including bills of materials (BOM), CAD drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Conduct precise fitting, aligning, and bolting of parts, ensuring tight dimensional tolerances.
- Perform light machining or surface preparation (e.g., deburring, lapping) as needed prior to assembly.
- Operate hand tools, torque tools, hydraulic presses, and other equipment used in reactor-grade assembly work.
- Ensure components meet nuclear cleanliness and contamination control standards.
- Participate in pressure testing, NDT (non-destructive testing) support, and quality inspections.
- Document assembly processes and support traceability of nuclear-grade components.
- Work collaboratively with quality assurance, engineering, and health & safety teams.
- Maintain strict adherence to health and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; training in millwright an asset.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in nuclear, aerospace, or high-spec manufacturing.
- Familiarity with nuclear-grade quality systems (e.g., CSA N299, ASME Section III) is an asset.
- Proficient in reading engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Able to take in-process measurement in order to maintain very precise design requirement
Working Conditions:
- Primarily shop-floor/production environment, with potential clean area requirements.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and radiation protection measures when necessary.
- May involve shift work depending on project timelines.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 25 kg, standing for extended periods, and handling precision tools.
Preferred Certifications:
- WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space (as applicable)
- Forklift or overhead crane certification
- CSA N285/N299 training (nuclear manufacturing standards)
