THE OPPORTUNITY


The Theatre and Event Technician Assistant is responsible for the technical operation of lighting and sound equipment required for stage and event performances at City culture facilities and events.

The incumbent will professionally operate all aspects of technical theatre performances, with a strong background in live audio, video & lighting.

This position may work in both indoor and outdoor settings and may be required to troubleshoot prior to and/or during events in front of large numbers of people.

This is a casual position, hours of work will depend on operational requirements.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide high standards of customer service for performers, presenters, audiences, and other stakeholders ensuring quality experiences for audiences and performers, through proper operation of theatre equipment.
  • Operate all aspects of performing arts theatre audio visual and stage equipment safely and effectively, including the set up, take down and proper storage of equipment.
  • Make recommendations and adjustments to technical elements of theatre/stage presentations and performances as required to improve experience.
  • Coordinate technical logistics with artists and facility users.
  • Support and train volunteers and other staff on the safe operation and use of theatre technical equipment.
  • Contribute to a positive safety culture by following all safety, legislation, and standards and by always acting in a safe manner and complying with City safety policies for staff, volunteers, and contractors.
  • Adhere to City policies, procedures, and standards, whether written or implied, as amended from time to time.
  • Act as a steward of the City's Corporate Culture by following the values we live by.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Diploma in Technical Theatre OR an equivalency of 3 Years' practical experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in a field related to the position.


  • Intermediate Level

  • EOS Family Lighting Consoles, Vector works/AutoCAD 360, Yamaha and Allen & Heath Sound Consoles, Wireless Microphones, Video Projectors, Yamaha Studio Manager, Shure Wireless Workbench, Woodworking and Power Tools, Aerial Work Platforms, Theatrical Rigging Systems, Studio Manager, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, Microsoft Windows, Windows Media Player.
  • Advanced Level Apex Console, EOS Console, ETC Express console, VLC.
  • The ability to plan and organize your workflow with others.

ASSET QUALIFICATIIONS:

  • Aerial work platform certificate.
  • Fall arrest certificate.
  • Class 5 Drivers license
  • Intermediate First Aid.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Scheduled as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Working in an office environment as needed.
  • Employees shall always act in a safe manner and will report any unsafe conditions, procedures or acts for the benefit of the City. Continual adherence to the City Safety Policy is mandatory.
  • It is the responsibility of the employees to keep current on WHMIS and other safetyrelated procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Driver's License must obtain a satisfactory review of a threeyear Driver's Abstract, with a maximum of six demerits.
  • First Aid /CPR Certificate.
  • A criminal record from an appropriate policy enforcement agency (i.e., RCMP or Police Service in a form and content satisfactory to the City).
