OPEN POSITION:

Our Railcars Maintenance shop located at

9300 Boulevard Maurice Duplessis in Montreal is looking for someone desiring to join a stable company, focused on health / safety and promoting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, for a Railcars Inspector position. Prior work experience in Inpection in the Rail Industry or other connected activities is a plus, but not required. GATX will be providing all necessary trainings to safely and sucessfully complete all essential tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform inbound and outbound inspections on various types of railroad cars and equipment in accordance with GATX guidelines, instructions, standards, regulations, Environmental/Health/Safety and Quality compliance policies.
  • Maintain all certifications necessary to perform routine and nonperiodic inspections;
  • Prepare accurate and detailed estimates of all necessary repairs to meet customer, regulatory and company expectations. This is done utilizing established policies and procedures.
  • Select the appropriate material for the repair and estimation process using SAP, MMS, MRP, Tails database, various manufacturing and part drawings, etc.
  • Perform Non Destructive Examination (NDE) and prework activities in order to facilitate the inspection process.
  • Create addson and/or supplements by ensuring the proper selection of materials and considering the technical notices (EN), improvement orders (IO) and maintenance instructions (FM);
  • Create lines for additional tasks to be completed based on a car repair (task definitions, part numbers, time allocation, etc.);
  • Complete all required documentation to ensure accurate billing and communication of completed repairs.
  • Ensure car files are well organized.
  • Calibrate and maintain all gauges at the facility.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KEY SKILLS:


  • High school diploma coupled with 25 years of experience in Inspection, railcar repair or connected activities.
  • Knowledge of Technical Instructions (EN), Improvement Orders (IO) and Maintenance Instructions (FM).
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, procedures, instructions, etc.
  • Ability to communicate details of car estimates verbally and in handwriting (penmanship is required).
  • Knowledge of AAR, FRA and GATX car maintenance standards is a plus.
  • Computer knowledgebased.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to bend over for long periods of time and regularly move from a kneeling to standing position.
  • Must be able to work at heights for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 50 pounds from the ground.
  • Must be able to push and pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at great heights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments. (cold or hot)
  • Must be able to physically enter confined spaces ("manholes" as small as 18 inches in diameter) and work in closed environments.

WORK HOURS:
Morning Shift: Monday to Friday: 6:00AM - 2:30PM.
