About the jobPayroll Processing (Daily 85%)
- Responsible for the end to end preparation and processing hourly employees across Canada (900 employees), including:
- Input new information for employees (Garnishments, etc.)
- Input changes and mid cycle payroll calculations
- Import hours from Kronos Workforce Central to Workday for each pay cycle
- Balance data between Kronos and Workday
- Verify all payroll data and changes made after payroll has been processed
- Responsible for maintenance of all payroll related data
- Process payments for Boots, PAL, vests in accordance with Collective agreement
- Respond to queries from branches related to issues with Kronos
- Preparing manual cheques as required
- Ensuring records of each payroll are maintained to ensure legislative and SOX compliance
- Accurately process ROEs using Web ROE
- Month End
- Process WCB, EHT, CRA, MRQ and other government remittances as required
- Prepares payroll related journal entries and reports.
- Prepare monthly invoice for Union billing, garnishments
- Provide analysis of labour hours, identifying abnormalities in hours that may have resulted from employee assignments or adjustment rule use in Kronos to support ongoing data and accounting improvements
- Account reconciliation for GL accounts related to payroll
- Liaison with finance regarding queries about GL/payroll posting.
- Year-End
- Annual balancing, reconciling and preparing Year End Adjustments for T4's and issuing T2200 as required
- Review Pensionable and Insurance Earnings Review (PIER) reporting for accuracy
- Process annual vacation payout for all hourly employees in accordance with Collective agreement.
- Support system training (Kronos) to new operations supervision and management employees
- Provide support to branches on Kronos and update vacation and sick accruals when necessary
- Provide testing support and procedure insights during system upgrades (Kronos, Workday)
- Design or request payroll reports as needed (Workday)
- Update payroll documentation in conjunction with the Payroll Manager and/or HRIS Specialist
- Respond to and effectively resolve employee payroll inquiries in a timely manner by demonstrating a thorough understanding of applicable collective agreements and payroll legislation
- Provide timely response to inquiries from all corporate departments
- Identify, implement and document process improvements
- Participate in special projects as assigned by Payroll Manager or Director, Total Rewards
Qualifications:
- 35 years of previous Payroll experience in all Canadian provinces, in complex unionized environments
- Experience operating in a fully inhouse payroll
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation
- Ability to work in a highpaced and challenging business environment
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience dealing with government agencies (i.e. CRA, Service Canada)
- Strong communication skills (verbal/written), bilingualism in English and French an asset
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (vlookup, pivot table)
