The Planning, Properties and Permits Division has a regular full-time opportunity available for a customer service and detail-orientated Community Service Clerk to work with the Bylaw Services Department.


The duties of this position include:

  • Creation of letters and imaging records.
  • Preparing and maintaining investigative files and records, provide background support such as existence of District permits, maintaining databases, and processing time entry for payroll.
  • Organizing and taking minutes in meetings and bylaw schedules.
  • Maintain disputed bylaw notice database and adjudication records, and screen disputed bylaw notices.
  • Constant and extensive public contact and requiring strong customer service, communication and conflict resolution skills, tact, discretion, sound judgement and team skills.

The successful applicant has:


  • Sound knowledge of business English and office procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of the applicable sections of various bylaws.
  • The ability to perform assigned clerical, keyboarding and related duties, and make independent decisions in accordance with departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • The ability to deal effectively with the public, other members of Bylaw Services, council, staff, business owners, contractors, community associations, RCMP, and other external contacts in processing inquiries and complaints; and provide a variety of factual information and related services in a professional, tactful and confidential manner, plus be able to work under pressure and function effectively while dealing with contentious matters and difficult customers.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by related courses, plus sound related clerical experience, preferably involving public contact in a municipal environment OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The ability to obtain RCMP security clearance is required.

Salary:
The pay range for this unionized position is $29.48 to $34.63 per hour (2024 rates).


Hours of Work:35-hour work week.
