Environmental Performance Business Partner


We are currently seeking an Environmental Performance Business Partner (aka our Environmental Compliance and Regulatory Specialist) to join our team.

As Walker Industries continues to grow, environmental compliance has become an increasingly integral function for the organization's business units.


Key Accountabilities
The Environmental Business Partner will perform various functions, including but not limited to the following:

  • Manage environmental compliance, with support of operations and provides advice to operations on compliance strategies and actions
  • Involved in facility environmental monitoring programs including obtaining, analyzing and documenting/reporting of monitoring data. Works with technical experts, inhouse environmental field coordinators, and environmental consultants
  • Communicates regularly with divisional and facility management and personnel to support compliance activities, including monitoring, inspection and reporting
  • Facilitates corporate environmental programs including environmental training, compliance audits, and other corporate environmental program initiatives (climate, energy, and sustainability)

Qualifications
A minimum of a college diploma/university degree in environmental science, or similar, is required for this role. Professional designation (P.Geo. or other) is considered an asset.

  • Proven ability to adapt and be flexible to changing schedules and circumstances
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, written and orally, to varying audiences
  • Proven ability to set and prioritize work
  • Proven ability to read, interpret and relay regulations and laboratory data
  • Familiarity with Ontario Regulations 406/19 (Excess Soils), 347 (Waste Management), 903 (Water Wells), 675/98 (Spills Exemptions and Reporting), 452/09 (Greenhouse Gas Emissions) and 419/05 (Air Pollution)
  • Familiarity with the Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Aggregate Resources Act, and Noise Guideline NPC300

Experience

  • 57 years in environmental science or environmental compliance fields
  • Experience managing longterm environmental monitoring programs including interpreting laboratory analytical results, in particular excess soils, groundwater and surface water
  • Experience drafting/reviewing technical reports including analyzing and interpreting of information
  • Experience conducting audits considered an asset
  • Experience working with stakeholders including government agencies (i.e. Ministry of the Environment), environmental consultants and the public
  • Experience obtaining governmentissued approvals and permits (i.e. Environmental Compliance Approvals, Permits to Take Water) considered an asset.
  • Working experience with Adaptive Management Plans (AMPs) and conducting audits considered an asset
  • Working experience with aggregates (pits and quarries) considered an asset
  • Technical experience working with data management software (i.e. MonitorPro) considered an asset
