About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Western Zone Operations Director of Laboratory Services, or designate, the Manager works with the Operations Director and the Western Zone Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (PLM) Director/Lab Services Medical Lead, to facilitate the daily administrative and clinical operations of the Department and to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe Pathology and Laboratory Medicine service.

The Manager is accountable for the effective operation of assigned areas of responsibility.

The Manager works in a co-leadership relationship with the Western Zone PLM Medical Director/Lab Services Medical Lead for assigned areas/facilities.


The Manager exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision, Policies, Procedures and Strategic Directives and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology, supplemented by additional formal management and/or leadership training
  • Current registration with the CSMLS and licensure with NSCMLT is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position
  • Minimum five (5) years' recent relevant supervisory/managerial experience
  • Experience in a unionized environment would be considered an asset
  • Progressive leadership and/or management experience
  • Experience in staff and program development and evaluation
  • Experience in leading change
  • Possess knowledge in healthcare structures, environments and services as they relate to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine services
  • Advanced communication skills (listening, written and oral)
  • Critical thinking, problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
  • Knowledge of field of practice to help inform strategy development and organizational planning
  • Welldeveloped organizational, networking, negotiation and change management skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks
  • Previous experience with LEAN workflow analysis and review and previous experience with Failure Mode Effects and Analysis review would be considered an asset
