Position Summary

The Janitor-Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing general building and property cleaning at Home Base's various facilities in Kingston, ON as well as general Maintenance of the buildings.

The Janitor/Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties:
clean, paint, install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain Home Base's properties and facility equipment.

Key Competencies

Enjoy a challenge.
Have previous work experience as a Janitor.
Have a general understanding of plumbing, drywall repair, changing locks, etc.
Be positive and flexible with a cando attitude.
Be willing to participate in a rotating On-Call schedule.
Have a valid driver's license.
Be able to obtain a vulnerable sector police check.
Have a WHMIS Certification.

Job Duties

General cleaning of the buildings
Sweep, vacuum and mop the floor
Sanitize restrooms
Empty trash, recycling, and compost
Wash windows, inside and outside
Make sure the establishment is clean and meets all safety requirements
Wash walls, ceilings, and light fixtures regularly
Provides both scheduled and emergency/unscheduled repairs of facilities and equipment.
Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments.
Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
Detects faulty operations, defective material and reports those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Prepares, paints and decorates interior and exterior surfaces as required.
Operates groundskeeping power equipment and maintain external property.
Performs minor construction work, e.g., dismantling and erecting walls, finishes carpentry work, pouring concrete, etc.
Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and maintains various electrical components, appliances and equipment.
Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment.
Performs necessary work to open clogged sewer lines.

Requirements:

High school diploma/GED
Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and Maintenance Coordination experience is an asset
Possess a valid driver's license.
Highly motivated and able to work independently.
Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
Ability to multitask and establish priorities.

Work Conditions

Rotating oncall shifts.
Physical ability to lift up to 75lb.
Travel to the site, and offsite locations will be required.
Hazards associated with the trade.
Work both indoors and outdoors.
