Position Summary


The Janitor-Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing general building and property cleaning at Home Base's various facilities in Kingston, ON as well as general Maintenance of the buildings.

The Janitor/Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties:
clean, paint, install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain Home Base's properties and facility equipment.


Key Competencies

  • Enjoy a challenge.
  • Have previous work experience as a Janitor.
  • Have a general understanding of plumbing, drywall repair, changing locks, etc.
  • Be positive and flexible with a cando attitude.
  • Be willing to participate in a rotating On-Call schedule.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Be able to obtain a vulnerable sector police check.
  • Have a WHMIS Certification.

Job Duties

  • General cleaning of the buildings
  • Sweep, vacuum and mop the floor
  • Sanitize restrooms
  • Empty trash, recycling, and compost
  • Wash windows, inside and outside
  • Make sure the establishment is clean and meets all safety requirements
  • Wash walls, ceilings, and light fixtures regularly
  • Provides both scheduled and emergency/unscheduled repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
  • Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detects faulty operations, defective material and reports those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Prepares, paints and decorates interior and exterior surfaces as required.
  • Operates groundskeeping power equipment and maintain external property.
  • Performs minor construction work, e.g., dismantling and erecting walls, finishes carpentry work, pouring concrete, etc.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and maintains various electrical components, appliances and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment.
  • Performs necessary work to open clogged sewer lines.

Requirements:


  • High school diploma/GED
  • Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and Maintenance Coordination experience is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Ability to multitask and establish priorities.

Work Conditions

  • Rotating oncall shifts.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 75lb.
  • Travel to the site, and offsite locations will be required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
