    About the job

    The primary responsibilities for this position are to implement policies, procedures, and actions at the Magog Quebec Canada site, under the direction of the HSES Manager and Site Director, that meet both regulatory and Nouryon standards for: Health, Safety (people and process), Security, and Environment (including Sustainability). The position will have a primary focus on Health and Safety compliance and injury prevention for the site, and will assist with applying applicable (and future) regulations by establishing, improving, and maintaining programs. Maintains and carries out duties associated with ISO, Responsible Care 14001 and Nouryon requirements. Consults with site leadership, and peers across the region to maintain compliance while sharing best practices. Monitors changes in regulations and applicable implementation thereof. Assists with tracking and reporting Sustainability metrics and providing input on plans to meet Nouryon and site ecoefficiency targets.

    In your future role as a HSE Specialist, you will:

  • Serve on the site HSE&S team and participates in implementing strategic HSES plan/priorities with a focus on H&S matters.
  • Ensure a regular presence on the shop floor to assist in any HSE topics
  • Assist sites with managing environmental programs, including permitting and compliance reporting/certification. Monitors and assists with permits to maintain license to operate and improve operational flexibility.
  • Support continuous improvement of Management Systems including: helping site's develop compliance demonstrations; identifying potential regulatory non-compliances and facilitate corrective actions; prepare, review, and update environmental related procedures and plans; conduct periodic environmental audits / evaluations.
  • Assist with emergency response and preparedness.
  • Assure proper collection, labeling, storing, and disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste streams, and identifying waste reduction/reuse opportunities.
  • Assist with release notifications and may serve as a point of contact for agencies during site inspections and audits.
  • Assist with submittal of various company and regulatory reports.
  • Lead/participate in site inspections and audits.
  • Complete metrics reporting.
  • Provide support for response and investigation for incidents.
  • Train staff on compliance, Nouryon, and best practices to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Ensure proper incident/hazard/near miss reporting.
  • Assist in the communication with the local safety agency (CNESST)
  • Assist the HSE&S manager for the collaboration with the mutual prevention group (mutuel de prevention)
  • May be involved in the HSE Committee

  • Great if you have

  • Experience working in a PSM (Process Safety Management) facility
  • Experience on writing procedures from beginning to end and training employees on them
  • A background working within a labor union environment

  • Bachelors-level credential or equivalent working experience in HSE, Engineering, or related discipline
  • 3+ years' experience in HSE in a Chemical industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable health, safety (people and process), environmental, laws/regulations, and applying them in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to build relationships and promote safety and compliance activities positively and encourage collaboration
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in French and English.
  • Must be able to wear FRCs, steel toed boots, hard hat and safety glasses and be able to go into a plant environment.
