Role Responsibilities:


Are you good at editing, proof reading documents and have a passion to research and write? Then we need you.

We are filling a three-year temporary position in Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU).


The mandate of the MCU is to support the Minister, Associate Minister, Deputy Minister and department in communicating the Government of Alberta's health care strategies, policies and programs to Albertans, elected officials, professional organizations and other stakeholders.


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing strategic communications support and proactive issues management support to prepare Action Requests
  • Researching, drafting, editing and preparing errorfree ministerial correspondence and other briefing materials to assist in information requests from Premier's office, Minister's offices, and MLAs
  • Ensuring responses are comprehensive, accurate, consistent and delivered in a timely manner
  • Maintaining government's reputation for providing credible information from Premier, Minister and government officials to Albertans
  • Assessing emergent issues, determining their nature and priority, researching and coordinating supporting information and taking action
  • Providing advice, training and collaboration to ministry staff to increase correspondence capacity
  • Developing and maintaining editorial resources that are used in drafting or review of correspondence
  • Maintaining awareness of how emerging health system issues may impact correspondence
  • Supporting the effective and efficient operations of the MCU and providing periodic support to the Issue Management Team as required

Successful incumbent will be or have:

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence and sensitivity to recognize and interpret needs of audience
  • Knowledge of government systems, processes, guidelines, templates and standards
  • The ability to research, analyze, compile relevant information, draft, edit correspondences to appropriate audiences
  • A critical thinker, able to use sound judgement
  • Knowledge of plain language writing
  • Use established processes and resources to guide in problem solving
  • Excellent organizational, time management skills and political acumen to work in a fast paced environment

Qualifications:


A related university degree such as English or Communications plus a minimum 2 years progressively responsible related experience drafting and editing executive level correspondence is required.

Related experience or education will be considered as an equivalency one-for-one for one basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Requirements:


Recommended knowledge, experience and skills include:

  • Strong working knowledge of executive correspondence style, briefing notes, and communication
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Adobe Pro
  • Previous knowledge or experience implementing administrative policies and processes

Assets

  • Previous experience with ARTS and understanding of Government of Alberta processes
  • Previous stakeholder management experience
