- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of fabricated and welded steel components to verify conformance to engineering drawings, weld symbols, and control plan requirements.
- Inspect raw material, laser/plasma-cut parts, formed components, weldments, and assemblies using precision measuring instruments and gauges (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, Faro Arm, etc.).
- Conduct first-off inspections and verify fabrication setup to ensure parts meet tolerances prior to full production.
- Verify weld quality and workmanship per applicable standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, CSA W47.1) and internal procedures.
- Identify and document non-conforming materials (NCMs); initiate and track corrective actions in collaboration with Production and Engineering.
- Support root cause analysis and participate in problem solving meetings to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
- Complete PPAP, ISIR, and dimensional layout reports as required by customer or internal standards.
- Create and maintain quality system documentation in compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Prepare and present quality data, trends, and performance metrics to management.
- Ensure all outgoing shipments meet customer quality and documentation requirements.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure accuracy of all inspection and test equipment.
- Support continuous improvement projects, including 5S, Kaizen, and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Maintain a clean and organized inspection area and promote safe working practices throughout the plant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with a proactive, hands‑on approach to problem-solving.
- Post-secondary education in Quality, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands‑on experience in steel fabrication.
- 2–5 years of experience in a fabrication or welding environment with a focus on quality inspection or assurance.
- Strong understanding of steel grades, welding processes, and fabrication methods.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, and weld symbol interpretation.
- Experience operating and programming CMM or Faro Arm equipment (training provided if needed).
- Knowledge of PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA, and MSA is an asset.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and exposure to ERP or quality management systems.

Position Summary
The Quality Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and improving product quality throughout all stages of the fabrication process — from raw material receipt to final assembly and shipment. This position ensures compliance with engineering drawings, control plans, and customer specifications, supports root cause analysis, and drives continuous improvement to strengthen product integrity and customer satisfaction.
The Quality Technician reports to the Quality Supervisor/Manager.
