Description
Provides guidance and support to EHS Specialists I, II, internal and external clients on EHS matters. Provides EHS support to the team, operations and Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS). Ensures the site is in compliance with EHS regulations and practices. Develops best practices for the site and shares best practices and expertise with other sites. Minimum 2 years EHS experience.


Essential Functions:


  • Provides EHS support to the department as well as Processing, Pharmaceutics Process Technology (PPT), Project Management and PDS Laboratory
  • Incident investigations
  • JHSC audit finding closures
  • Risk assessments
  • Department specific training
  • Client & auditor support
  • Provides Environmental Support
  • Completes the national pollutant release inventory (NPRI) report
  • Ships dangerous goods following the regulations and provides guidance to employees
  • Manages hazardous waste management program
  • Manages waste water discharge program ensuring compliance with Sewer Use By-Law
  • Manages New Substance Notification Regulations (NSNR) program
  • Completes Toxic Reduction submissions as needed
  • Provides Safety Support
  • Conducts equipment reviews
  • Coordinates prestart health and safety review completion
  • Development of safety programs such as lock out and machine guarding
  • Provides Industrial Hygiene (IH) Support
  • Conducts IH assessments on existing products and evaluates technologies to improve containment.
  • Development of Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and IH analytical methods
  • Development of IH sampling plans and sampling strategies
  • Written industrial hygiene reports and presentations
  • Makes recommendations for improving containment, engineering controls etc., where necessary
  • Participates in workteams to evaluate containment of existing processes and implements containment plans.
  • Completion of health effects table information and communication to all PSG sites
  • Updates the health effects table and toxicity categorization databases
  • Develops and Implements EHS Programs
  • Safety examples: Equipment and process safety reviews
  • Industrial hygiene examples: respiratory protection, noise and air sampling
  • Environment examples: Certificate of Approval for Air, NPRI, NSNR
  • Develops audit protocols, audits programs, procedures and practices for the EHS Programs
  • Develops and conducts EHS training
  • Orientation training
  • Monthly safety talks
  • Department specific training
  • New Project Risk Assessments
  • Attends Kick-Off Meetings and ongoing Project Meetings.
  • Evaluates containment/industrial hygiene for new projects
  • Potent Compound activespecific procedures and training
  • Liaises with Project Managers, Process Engineers and Clients.
  • Completes and/or assists special EHS Projects
  • Provides guidance, backup and support to other EH&S team members and Health Centre
  • Respiratory Protection Program and Fit Testing
  • Reviews and updates the respiratory protection program, as necessary.
  • Implements Positive Air Pressure Respirator (PAPR) maintenance and testing programs, as necessary.
  • Conducts respirator fit testing for employees and clients
  • Assists in selection and use of respiratory protection, protective clothing, hearing protection and safety glasses.
  • Performs alternating or rotating shift work (as required)
