Summary:

Reporting to the Program Director, Mental Health, and under the clinical direction of the Professional Practice Leader, the Psychologist, Discovery Day Program is in charge of psychological services for the Discovery Day Program at the St.

Paul's Hospital site, part of the Eating Disorders Program (Mental Health Program).

The Psychologist, Discovery Day Program works within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice of the College of Psychologists of British Columbia and within the vision and values of the organization.

The Psychologist, Discovery Day Program is responsible for the development, management and provision of psychology services within the Discovery Day Program including supervision of staff in addition to providing individual and group therapy to clients.

Skills: Knowledge of therapeutic, diagnostic and consultation techniques. Knowledge of psychology assessment and treatment methods and tools. Knowledge of evidence based psychological practice. Ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator. Ability to communicate with and deal effectively with co-workers, clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups. Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Ability to teach and provide clinical supervision. Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment including personal computer and related word processing and spreadsheet software.

Education: Ph.
D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited University, plus one year supervised internship. Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.

Duties: Coordinates the development, management and provision of psychology services within the Discovery Day Program through methods such as analyzing treatment needs and establishing and maintaining policies, procedures and guidelines. Oversees the day-to-day functioning of the Discovery Day Program through methods such as coordinating the Discovery Day Program schedule and guidelines, client wait list and admissions and discharges. Supervises assigned staff through methods such as reviewing workload assignments and adjusting schedules according to workload to ensure that staff levels meet operational requirements; evaluates staff performance. Establishes priorities and provides guidance and clinical advice through methods such as facilitating resolutions to work issues and monitoring operations/clinical activities to ensure departmental standards are met and safety procedures are followed. Forwards information on unresolved work issues to Program Director for action. Recruits staff through methods such as identifying vacancies, processing required internal paperwork, interviewing applicants and making recommendations to the Program Director or designate for selection. Participates in the short and long-term planning for the Eating Disorders Program through methods such as evaluating the effectiveness of treatment within the Discovery Day Program, identifying opportunities for change and formulating recommendations for quality improvement to ensure optimal outcomes are met. Provides a variety of administrative duties in support of the overall Eating Disorders budget by performing duties such as monitoring and controlling expenditures within the Discovery Day Program against approved budgets to ensure adherence to projections and reports variances to the Program Director or designate. Completes psychological assessments of referred clients through methods such as reviewing client history, gathering information from the referral source/client/other relevant persons, interviewing clients, conducting or supervising testing and developing/determining most effective methods of treatment to improve client health status.
