What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • coordinate and deliver and audit specialized enforcement training for Conservation Officers, Deputy Conservation Officers, and other staff with a compliance and enforcement function within the ministry
- coordinate and deliver provincial classroom training, as well as mandatory training such as self-defense and firearms
- assist in the development of in-service training standards and policy


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • You have completed the Use of Force Instructor's Course at the Ontario Police College.
  • You possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • You can provide proof of having passed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course or possess a Possession and Acquisition Firearms Licence.
  • You have the ability to pass the Ontario Hunting License Examination or equivalent.
  • You have the ability to pass psychological and physical assessments to determine suitability and fitness for the position.
  • You have the ability to qualify as a Conservation Officer, which includes the ability to successfully complete Basic Constable Training at the Ontario Police College.
  • You have the ability to be certified as an Armourer for firearms.

Communication and Interpersonal skills:


  • You have communication and presentation skills to research, prepare, present, discuss and explain highly complex information related to legislation, lesson plans, manuals, policies and procedures and accurately evaluate outcomes.
  • You have interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, facilitation and leadership skills to deal effectively with student/staff concerns, conflict resolution, stress management, managing change, adult learning, group dynamics and working in a team environment.

Specialized knowledge:


  • You have knowledge of, and ability to design and deliver specialized training on techniques in areas such as: the Use of Force Continuum, the use of restricted and nonrestricted firearms by enforcement officers, self defense tactics, conflict resolution, code of professional and biasfree law enforcement and delivery, evaluation and critiquing of judgment training scenarios at the instructor level.

Planning, Coordinating and Supervisory skills:


  • You have planning, coordinating and supervisory skills to effectively plan, manage, determine objectives and priorities, lead teams, assign, coordinate and critique both staff and instructors involved in the delivery of the training program.
