Detailed Overview:
Reporting to the Manager and under the general supervision of the Client Care Coordinator or designate, acts as a support person to the nurses to promote a safe therapeutic environment for clients at the assigned site.
Assists clients with personal care, performs cleaning and housekeeping duties, and may perform limited food preparation and assistance with serving of meals.
Provides feedback to the Client Care Coordinator or designate regarding client issues.Responsibilities:
- Provides clients with assistance in the completion of their personal hygiene and care by encouraging and assisting, as necessary, with toileting, bathing, skin care, grooming, dressing and laundry.
- Performs housekeeping duties such as wiping tables, mopping floors, and vacuuming.
- Maintains linen by sorting, laundering, folding, storing and distributing.
- Performs limited food preparation such as heating prepared food, making tea, coffee, toast, salads and sandwiches. Attends to clients who require assistance with their feeding and cleans up dining area following meals. Records client food intake on Meal Monitoring forms and reports any dietary concerns to professional staff.
- Obtains reports regarding facility and clients at the commencement of each shift. Communicates to appropriate staff the necessary tasks that need completing are brought to the attention of others on the team by communicating verbally and/or via logbook.
- Cleans and services facility parkade and yard by performing a variety of housekeeping duties including correct usage and storage of cleaning supplies, removing garbage and recycling waste as required.
- Provides feedback to Client Care Coordinator or, if applicable, to nurse on duty regarding concerns of clients, staff or facility by methods such as discussing issues with staff, making notations in logbook. Provides input during meetings regarding specific areas of operation of the facility.
- Observes and reports facility issues, client condition and behaviour to professional staff for the purpose of ensuring quality client care, including safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
Grade 12.
Successful completion of a Community Mental Health Worker Certificate or Long Term Care Aide Certificate or equivalent and 6 months related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must meet staffing requirements as set out in the Community Care Facilities Licensing Act. Food Safe Course - Basic Level.Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively, both orally and in writing, in English.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to get along well with others.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, other individuals and outside agencies.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work, to effectively manage a heavy and demanding workload and to exercise sound judgement.
- Ability to effectively manage changing workload under pressure, and during times of change.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, while seeking the appropriate level of consultation and approval from the Client Care Coordinator or designate.
