Position Summary:


Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Recreation & Fitness, assist with the management of daily administrative processes and duties related to the Summer Sports Camp.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Sports Camp staff including: instructors, section leaders, camp specialists and aquatic staff.
  • Assist with promotional/outreach plan including collecting promotional materials from Communications office and distributing these to McGill Phys Ed students going on their stages. Visit local schools and promote summer camp to their physical education programs.
  • Participate and assist in the preselection and interview processes of selected applicants for the position of camp instructors and camp specialist positions which may take place in person or via web as per protocol.
  • Assist with the drop off and pick up processes including making sure parking lot is setup, welcome table is manned, deal with questions from parents, direct camper to their group.
  • Assist with daycare process assuring parking lot is setup, welcome table is manned, deal with questions from parents, direct camper traffic, make sure each camper is properly signed out.
  • Assist with overseeing the camp specialists including reviewing their lesson plans, take attendance, evaluate the specialists, help trouble shoot any problems that may arise.
  • Create initial camp schedules with help from section leaders before camp commences. Review and adjust the schedule on a weekly basis prior it's start.
  • Assist and handle counsellor incidents involving instructors by completing document details of the incident(s) and when required reporting these incidents to the Assistant Manager and/or Human Resources staff.
  • Assist section leaders with camper incidents including accidents, injuries, disciplinary issues and dealing with parents.
  • Communicate with parents regarding any incident involving their child (both behavioral and physical), help communicate special events at camp. Depending on the urgency of the incident parents are contacted immediately or same day.
  • Ensure administrative documents are up to date (absences, tshirts lists, schedules, bunk lists)
  • Responsible for processing camp staff evaluations using existing evaluation form.
  • On a weekly basis maintain a record of hours worked for instructors, aquatic staff, section leaders. Provide these records to Assistant Manager at the end of each week.
  • In conjunction with the Communication/Marketing department, notify client services of any general and/or event information that must be communicated to parents including : BBQ Days, Alouettes Game day, lice outbreaks, changes in camp operations etc.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in administrative procedures
  • Ability to recognize, address and deal with difficult situation involving campers and noncampers
  • Experience with summer camp operations
  • Supervisory experience necessary
  • Undergrad or working towards a degree in Education/Physical Education
  • Familiar with facilities operations including but not limited to building hours, fire alarm procedures, evacuation procedures.
  • Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an Englishlanguage university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Minimum Education and Experience:
  • DEC III 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 03) $52, $65, $78,310.00
