    310T Mechanic. Top paying role with HUGE promotion potential.

    $36 - $40 per hour plus shift premium

    Monday to Friday (7:00am - 3:30pm and 1:00pm - 9:30pm)

    The Technician IV performs major and technically difficult diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls/rebuilds in a timely manner; ensuring quality, time standards, customer expectations, cost guidelines and reliability goals are met. The T4 works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and mentors other Ryder technicians on a regular basis. The Technician IV provides the highest level of experience and expertise in vehicle diagnostics and repair. The position also plays a key role in the leadership, development and training of other grade technicians. The T4 may specialize in areas such as: refrigeration, electronics, exhaust systems, etc., and should possess a combination of extensive vehicle transportation experience, ASE certifications, and/or multiple Ryder Qualifications.

    Essential Functions

  • PERFORMS VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR DUTIES INCLUDING:Performs standard vehicle maintenancePerforms preventive maintenancePerforms complex repairs with minimal (if any) the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documentsDiagnoses and repairs complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal (if any) support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution to assist roadside breakdowns.
  • INTERACTS WITH CUSTOMERS/DRIVERS TO PROPERLY DETERMINE THE NATURE OF COMPLAINT ONCE ASSIGNED A TASKInstructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnosticsCoaches/Mentors other level techniciansAdvise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Performs facility maintenance duties
  • Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
  • Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support.

  • TIRE AND WHEEL MAINTENANCE: Tire & Wheel safety trained within 90 days (TW220)Repair and replace tire and wheel assembliesPerform nail hole repairsVerify, diagnose and repair tire related ride quality complaintsPerform failure analysis and substantiate premature failure
  • PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE: PM trained and qualified within 90 days (PM230 & PM298)Mentor technicians in complete and efficient PMsConduct quality inspections on PMs
  • BRAKES-AIR: Brake Air trained and qualified within 90 days (BA220 & BA298)Measure lining thicknessAdjust brakesPerform air brake sections of P.M.Perform brake overhaulMeasure drums, rotors, cam bushingsReplace S cams and bushings, slack adjusters and shimsReplace foot and relay valves, air dryers, air tanks, air lines and other similar componentsMust meet federal qualifications of brake mechanic and inspectors (FMCS Perform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failureDiagnose and repair all systems and related problems
  • BRAKES-HYDRAULIC: Brake Hydraulic trained and qualified within 90 days (BH220 & BH298)* where appropriateMeasure lining thicknessAdjust service brakesAdjust park brakesRepair or replace minor parts such as linesBleed brake systemsPerform brake shoe replacementMeasure rotors and drumsInspects and replace wheel cylinders, master cylinders and boostersMust meet federal qualifications of brake mechanic and inspectors (FMCS Perform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failure
  • A/C, HEATER & REFRIGERATION: A/C recycling and recovery certified within 90 days (CF609) & A/C trained and qualified within 180 days (AC220 & AC298)Perform basic system checks such as power to compressor, condenser obstructions, belt tension, refrigerant and oil leaksOperate charging and recovery equipmentAttach manifold gaugesCharge the system according to manufacturer's specificationMeet Federal Refrigeration/AC qualificationsFlush system contaminantsRun OEM performance tests and verify performanceUtilize electrical schematics and Diagnostic procedures to identify correct related problemsDiagnose and repair all systems and related problems
  • CARGO HANDLING/TRANSFER, LIFTGATES:Perform all mechanical and electrical diagnostics on liftgatePerform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failureRepair and replace all liftgate components
  • CHARGING SYSTEMS: (electrical) HD electrical trained within 90 days (DR208)Perform full diagnostic charging system including in-depth analysis and corrections
  • CRANKING SYSTEM: (electrical)Perform in-depth analysis, get to root cause and make correctionsDiagnose and repair all systems and related problems
  • LIGHTING SYSTEM AND ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES:Diagnose, isolate and repair lighting system problems such as shorted and open circuitsDiagnose and repair electronically controlled lighting and electrical sub-systems (i.e., SAM cab/body control module)
  • CLUTCH:Identify proper clutch operationIdentify proper clutch brake operation and adjustAdjust Hydraulic or mechanical clutchesRemove and replace clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch brake, etc.
  • COOLING SYSTEMS:Diagnose all fan clutch typesDiagnose all control systemsRebuild fan clutchesDiagnose and repair all systems and related problems
  • DRIVE AXLES:Perform diagnostics and major repairs as requiredPerform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failure
  • DRIVE LINE:Perform diagnostics and major repairs as requiredPerform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failure
  • DIESEL AND GAS ENGINES - all engines:Identify unusual noises and oil leaksdiagnose, overhaul and replace all assemblies and components as requiredPerform failure analysis and substantiate abuse or premature failureDiagnose and repair emission after treatment components and related sub-systems
  • FUEL SYSTEMS:Diagnose all fuel system malfunctionsRepair and replace fuel system components including injectorsDiagnose and repair electronically controlled fuel related sub-systems
  • STEERING AND NON-DRIVEN AXLES AND ALIGNMENT:Perform alignment procedures and adjust as necessaryDiagnose and repair all steering components for wear and/or damageCheck and adjust trailer axle alignmentAdjust wheel bearingsPerform failure analysis and substantiate premature failure
  • SUSPENSION-CHASSIS AND CAB:Diagnose and repair air leaksDiagnose and repair suspension and chassis componentsDiagnose hard to fund problems and all types of system problemsMaintain, repair and replace all chassis componentsPerform failure analysis and substantiate premature failure
  • VEHICLE COUPLING SYSTEM (PM):Repair and/or replace 5th wheelDiagnose and repair vehicle coupling components for wear and/or damage
  • DECISION MAKING:Responsible for making decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical skillsAbility to demonstrate proficiency with advanced diagnostics, overhaul and repair of all vehicle components and systemsPerform all entry level tasks, road test vehicles as necessary

  • H.S. diploma/GED preferred
  • Vocational or Technical Certification preferred Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:- Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work- Diagnostics and repairs, including AC, electrical systems,- Advanced skilled level repairs to include some major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs required
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, required
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
