Job Purpose


The Estimating Manager is responsible for the Estimating department by overseeing the day to day delegation of tasks, maintains client relationships, and ensures the bid process runs smoothly.


Roles and Responsibilities
Management/Strategic Requirements

  • Continually Improve the Estimating Department's processes while ensuring they are aligned with the Projects and Finance departments
  • Responsible for managing departmental bid submission and completion;
  • Workload planning
  • Solid understanding of construction and fabrication estimating procedures, processes, and requirements
  • Review all bids and proposals for accuracy and completeness prior to submittal
  • Effectively managing and delegating workload;
  • Overall bid management and delegation of workload and tasks (prioritization, delegation, and multitasking)
  • Extensive experience in Pipe spool, Structural, Modules, Electrical, Coating, Estimations are required
Operational/Day to Day Requirements

  • Manage Estimating Department Personnel by;
  • Managing the team workload and hours through forecasts, approvals, daily team meetings, weekly workplans, and individual check ins through the day;
  • Conducting regular performance reviews, individual development plans, and succession planning;
  • Review all incoming bid requests and asses scope and effort required to complete Bid/Proposal
  • Review Estimating notes completed by estimators
  • Maintain bids database and complete regular KPI reporting
  • Manage clients & subcontractors (relations, updates, requests);
  • Follow up and meet with subcontractors as required;
  • Ensures that all bid submissions meet client expectations.
  • Liaise with other Departments as required (Finance, Projects, Support staff)
  • Bid decisions and award probabilities assessment
  • Work closely with Finance and Projects for budgeting and financial variance reporting of estimates versus actuals
  • Support team with compiling proposal deliverables, pricing bids (as required), and submitting proposals
  • Effectively negotiate and build positive relationships with vendors and suppliers drawing from previous contacts and industry knowledge
  • Contracts Review

Education


Qualifications:


  • Possess a strong understanding of construction codes and welding procedures
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)
  • Experience in managing, mentoring, and leading a team through complex or interdependent projects

Skills:


  • Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience in the piping discipline is required
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office including; Excel, Word, and Access are required
  • Possess superior organizational skills in managing multiple deadlines and can jump between multiple bids with different scopes
  • Creative problem solving with experience to look at innovative solution with a firm understanding of financial implications
  • High attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills, and accuracy
