SUMMARY


The Graphic and Digital Design (GDD) Lab Technician works closely with the GDD Studio Systems Administrator to support and manage MacOS, server systems, equipment and related resources used by students and faculty.


The GDD Lab Technician assists in department labs, studios and the Student Support Centre and ensures the smooth operation of class equipment and printers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Assists the Studio Technician and the GDD Lab Coordinator Systems Administrator in managing GDD Mac computer resources, server systems and peripherals (scanners and printers).

Responsible for license and subscription support, asset tracking and documentation, Mac hardware set
- up & maintenance; external displays; and software installation & maintenance in labs, studios, and offices.

Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues with Apple hardware, macOS, iOS, software, servers, and databases.


Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues with Mac labs' multi-function devices (MFD), colour, laser, and 3D printers; tracking and maintaining usage logs; facilitating repairs; and maintaining and storing related supplies.

Communicates and works with UFV IT Services (ITS) to support networking, software licensing, and Active Directory.

Configures and supports GDD student-owned Apple laptops.

Assists in configuring and maintaining the various GDD server directory and software license accounts.

Manages inventory and asset tracking of in-class laptops, cameras, iPads and accessories for students and faculty.

Assists in researching and testing new technologies suitable for multi-device management (MDM), server systems, etc.

Performs MDM setup, configuration, organization, and deployment.


Assists in developing policies, procedures, and reference guides for GDD student and faculty use of Mac computers, server systems, peripherals, and printing resources.

Maintains organization and tidiness of GDD Studios, equipment storage, and other related workspaces.

Assists in maintaining the GDD Tech web page.

Monitors paper supplies and other resources to support the Systems Administrator in balancing the capital budget and order schedules.

Assists in equipment and resource budget projections when necessary.

Manages student and faculty access to GDD Studio and lab spaces.


Provides technical support to GDD students, faculty, and staff using macOS on computer resources, peripherals and software in labs, classrooms, studios, and offices, as well as personal MacBooks.

Signs out and returns equipment borrowed by students and performs quality control.

Recommends software and systems in the Mac labs to support course and program requirements Conducts lab orientation sessions and demonstrates technical processes and the correct use of Mac hardware, macOS and GDD Printers

Assists in supervising GDD work-study students and auxiliary staff.

Communicates in a respectful and professional manner with all members of the team, department, University community and external partners.


Engages in learning and activities related to actioning indigenization and understanding the impact of colonialism and the purpose of reconciliation.

Collaborates effectively as a team member, including sharing information, cross training and interpersonal cooperation.


Demonstrates respect for all members of the UFV community and proactively works to create an environment of inclusivity and accessibility of others.

Participates in committees and project teams as required.
Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.


QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in media arts, graphic design, computer science, computer information systems, or equivalent.


Three (3) years' experience supporting MacOS devices and server systems in an educational or enterprise environment; PC experience may be considered.


Apple Certified Support Professional Certificate (ACSP10.13 or later) (preferred); experience supporting a PC environment may be considered with demonstrable knowledge of MAC OS, server systems, and related hardware/software.

Experience with MFD printers, fiery software and online project management tools is preferred.

Working knowledge of Adobe CC software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign preferred.

Basic design skills needed to develop internal visual communication (such as lab posters) are assets.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presenting information verbally to a group.

Ability to remain calm under pressure, maintain confidentiality and work with mínimal supervision.

Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs;
Available to work during non-regular work hours.

Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5) and have access to a vehicle f or travel between campuses.
