STRANGE GOINGS ON IN THE BACK YARD
For no particular reason, I found myself staring out the back window. It was raining fairly hard and I was looking around when I spied something very strange. It was a starling, sitting on top of a TV antenna on the house behind mine. It was too far away to take a picture of, but I stared for a while and the starling just sat there so still that I wasn't sure it was a bird at all. The rain poured down on him for quite a while and then all of a sudden the starling started fluffing his wings and shaking like they do in the bird bath we have in our yard. It took a few seconds but I realized he's having a shower. He sat still until he was saturated and started to gyrate. And I thought, man that's pretty weird, and opened the fridge, which is what I went into to do in the first place. When I got back to the window, the starling had taken off, only to be replaced by a sparrow sitting there like a statue in the rain. By this time I had mostly figured it out. Some birds like a bath, others like a shower. Kinda just like us.
