2022 IN ALL ITS GLORY IS UPON US.

2022 IN ALL ITS GLORY IS UPON US.

It's estimated that about 15,000 people crowded into Times Square in New York to welcome in the new year. But you can be pretty sure they were all idiots. This number was much lower than in previous years, and it's a good sign that there were many thousands of others who were conspicuous by their absence.

I used to watch this celebration, if only to force myself to stay awake to give my wife a kiss and say Happy New Year. A lot of this celebrating of the new year is lost on me, I'm afraid. A lot of people were celebrating because 2021 was a shitty year and they are glad to leave it all behind. It remains to be seen if people will be willing to do what it takes to get this plague, that has affected just about everything, under control.

Personally, I am a bit leery for the simple reason that we have already had two years to make that happen and frankly we have blown it right out our collective butts. But it's much better to be hopeful that skeptical. Even though there is less reason to be the former than there is to be the latter. Enjoy the year. Stay away from hurricanes.
