RIP ROE V WADE

POLITICAL WILL VERSUS POPULAR WILL
The decision to overturn the longstanding abortion access law, better known as Roe V Wade, was overturned today by the Supreme Court of the United States. This, despite the fact that in poll after poll the majority of Americans favour full access for women to abortion services. 
This is part of the legacy of the Trump administration that placed three conservative judges on the Supreme Court and completely biased it towards conservative decisions. It will now be up to the individual states to determine how they will deal with abortion rights, and this then becomes political as well, as all the Republican states will vote to ban or severely restrict abortions. 
But the sad part of this all is that the women of the United States have been turned into political pawns and had one of their fundamental rights to choose severely restricted and in many cases made illegal. 
This flies in in the face of what most Americans support on this issue, and once again proves just how damaging and reactionary the Republican side of the country has become. How much longer the US can keep on calling itself a true democracy is the big question that many around the world are asking themselves.
