See This Country?

 It has a lot going for it and always has, ever since it was founded 250 odd years ago.

But times change and as the country grew, mostly due to robber barons, slave labour and hard working immigrants, its ideals tended to get pushed to the back burner as its power grew and its need to ensure that the raw materials it required to keep growing and keep making the rich richer grew with it.

Today, the America we see is quite a bit different from the country the founders envisioned. These changes have caused gaps to open up in just about every aspect of its culture. The two main political parties are divided in a way that they have never been before. The same for the races and religions. The gap between the relatively small number of super rich people and the rest has widened considerably too, mostly thanks to the influence the rich have to government.

These divides, especially the divide between the right wing whites and the rest of the country has the potential to spark yet another civil war. A lot of people think this will subdivide the country into small territories that will all be independent. But that doesn’t matter. Because the worse thing it will do is weaken America’s leadership role in the world, which is something it needs more than ever, as the world shrinks and the interdependence of countries increases. In this trend, the US has a very good chance of being the big loser. Especially if the gap between the haves and the have nots in  continues to widen. They will become an unappealing consumer market for the rest of the world. And since they do very little manufacturing of their own anymore, they will suffer.

All this crystallized with the appearance of Donald Trump and his election as president. He was, for reasons still unknown, been dead set on undoing all that previous presidents the their administrations had worked hard to do, which was to keep America at the top of the heap.

America is not there anymore and if, next year, the Biden government loses control of Congress, and Trump gets elected again in 2024, this downward spiral into insignificance will only accelerate.

There is not a right thinking American who doesn’t know this. Trouble is that there are way too many ignorant and uninformed Americans who have been conscripted into the cult of personality that Trump and his overlords have created. And these people hate anyone who disagrees with Trump for whoever reason.

The American Republic is in the most dangerous position it have been in at any time in its history. The world is hoping that it will not become the fascist nation that the current Republican party very much appears to want.  Time will tell I suppose, but if that country does fall into a fascist state, the world will be a lot weaker for it.
