Can Audio Really Kill Video? A How To Test

Can Audio Really Kill Video? A How To Test

It's not often that a simple buzz gets me to thinking. Sure, sometimes a producer post spawns another. But a buzz? Robert C. Stern wrote a buzz about the importance of video. It's over here if you missed it.

That buzz got me thinking. Good job, Robert! My ex-wife says I rarely do that.

Let me say that I am not a big fan of video. I don't like the way I look on screen. I don't like the heavy production time involved in making a decent video.

Live streams scare the hell out of me.

I'm a writer. I call my first drafts, "The Butt-Ugly First Draft." It seems to me that live streaming is a first and only draft.

That's scary to me.

That's on me.

Robert's point is valid.

Robert said, "Videos can attract a different audience. One that might not take the time to read a white paper or an article."

Videos can attract a different audience. One that might not take the time to read a white paper or an article.
Robert C. Stern

I have used video. The longer ones promoting myTweetPack.com are disappointing.

IMHO video offers a richer user experience. There is the audio, with background sounds and the scenery that supports the audio. 30% of the brain is attached to the eyes. But what i have found is that video is riskier to your brand. A badly done video changes your brand almost instantaneously. Writing on the other hand when done poorly, there is a chance for recovery. I think video is the way to go if you can do it right. If not then writing is the best choice. Video is time consuming and has 100's of elements that need consideration depending on topic. There is only one Steven Spielberg. But my daughters tell me that younger folks are liking the spontaneous on the spot videos with all the mistakes and sporadic thought streams. So in the end it depends on who your target market is as to whether video would be right.

I too, prefer to sit with a book. Although, lately I read eBooks on my phone or tablet. My sister-in-law also loved to read but rarely gets the time. She started buying audioBooks to "read" on her 1.5-hour daily commute (each way)

Paul, I find myself really getting ticked off when a video consists of word slides being read by someone trying to sell me something. IN those cases it might as well be an audio since I visually it is boring. BUT I find that even though I was a fan of radio shows that were story based with multiple actors and great sound effects I can't bring myself to listen to a book on tape. I don't have the time. Reading is my preferred way to get the information. I know that is an anomaly. A rump survey recently over lunch with six consultants I know revealed that 2 out of three across the group read less than one book per month. All said they seldom watched a video unless it was recommended by a friend. Half of them said they occasionally got books on tape to play in the car.

Wow... may I suggest a How-To? I can pop out (LOL auto-correct tried to change "pop" to "poop") a blog in an hour. With video, I need hours and hours

That's exactly the type of thing I expected, Franci. Personally, I wouldn't mind queuing up a bunch of audio blog posts and playing them while I go about my day. I can do without my Classic Rock for a while
Audio is powerful. Video and images seems.to be the way to sell anything to millenials ( think Snapchat or Instagram). Thanks for this buzz. You made me think a lot !
