Change the world - one kindness at a time!

Change the world - one kindness at a time!

"I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act."
Bill Gatese

Think about it and I know you’ll agree that Bill’s statement is true. Today there is too much angry talk, too much negativity, and not enough focus on the positives around us. Everyone in power it seems is using tv, video, the web, social media and film to make sure that we know there are problems. They also show us how we can make the lives of the people who need help better.  It seems everyone in power is asking us to believe they are the only ones who can save the world.

We don't need these people as I believe we can through simple acts of kindness make a difference, by showing one kindness at a time. Taking action to better your world, is not just about money. For example, donations can be tinned foods or warm clothes for bitterly cold nights, or spectacles to help people see. You can even make a car donation to be used or sold by a charity. Things we don’t have a use for anymore but are still too good to throw away cam be given to charity. This way we can make a difference easily and feel that we are helping in a way that doesn’t mean we have to give money, like many of you I am on a fixed income, so I don't want to waste my money.

If you like to give money and are able to do so, to make a difference, do you give charity donations regularly or just when you see a disaster has happened on the news? If you donate money to charity regularly, I expect you have already decided on the area that is most important to you, such as Cancer or Food Bank.

If like me, you have a ‘favourite’ charity, it is a good idea to plan your budget for the year and then decide how to help. I give to my local charity SHARE Family Services, which is well known in our community for its good works. I do this because I think it that it is better to help with charity donations closer to home. Sometimes the best and most satisfying things to do is be involved with fundraising at a local level. When I had a young family we gave money to Foster Parents and as well we communicated with our Foster child.

In recent years I have chosen two areas to support. One is cancer research as cancer affected my family. The other is SHARE that amongst it activities runs the local Foodbank, n this way, I get the satisfaction of knowing my financial help will help make a better future for my local community.

The following is part of an email I received from Ely, which I thought I would share as well as it ties into my post

Are you looking for ideas or motivation tips to make a difference in your life or for someone else's life? Are you like most everyone and just does not have much time? Can you perform random acts of kindness every day?

Honestly, it doesn't take much time to brighten someone's life. A few minutes a day can make a difference to a person or a family. Just some kindness and the evidence that someone cares about them can turn their world around.

Here are some motivation tips that don't take much time, so begin to make a difference today! You'll feel better -- and so will the recipient of your kindness.

1. Send at least one e-mail (email is old technology, and used by us boomers for you younger folks, facebook, Instagram or twitter are the social media used) once a day telling someone: how much they are appreciated or thanking them for something they did for you or just telling them something you like about them. You can also send beautiful, encouraging e-cards, by visiting http://www.togetherwecanchangetheworld.com  You'll find the right e-card for every occasion - these are not your usual, everyday e-cards!

2. Send a note of appreciation to your local Police, Fire Station, or paramedics to encourage the people who make a difference in everyone's lives. This doesn't happen nearly enough for these people who put their lives on the line for all of us every day.

3. Have everyone in your family (even if it's just you) drop all their loose change in a large glass jar you keep on the counter. Every six months decide where to send it Make a family ritual out of the event and make a difference in someone's life almost effortlessly. (I suggest you donate the funds to the local food bank)

4. Buy a few extra items at your grocery store and drop them by your local homeless shelter or food bank. You'll make huge a difference, simply by adding a handful of extra items and a few minutes to your shopping.

5. Collect bottles and cans, and when you cash them in, use the money to donate to your local charity of choice--a friend of mine does this and over a six month period he was able to donate over $800 in his grandson's name.

I hope this post helps you realise together you CAN change the world - one kindness at a time!
