Dispatches From The Far Side of My Mind

Dispatches From The Far Side of My Mind

RISIN’ AND FALLIN’

I've been risin’
I've been fallin’
And I got to say
It's been a long time
Since I heard you callin’
I've been dreamin’
About a love I thought was true

Risin’ and fallin’

Every time I look at you

I've been risin
I've been tumblin’
And I tell you that there's
Been a few times
I thought I was crumblin’
It's been a long night
And my heart doesn't have a clue
Risin’ and fallin’
Every time I look at you

(CHORUS)

You walk into the room

In that blue satin dress

I have admit to myself

It causes me great distress
But I'm a fool
And you are never what you seem
Risin’ and a fallin’,
Like a bright star in my dreams

I've been risin
I've been fallin’
And I guess we just fell out of love
Without any stallin’
But I still dream about
A love I prayed would stay true
Risin’ and fallin’
Every time I look at you...

RUNNIN’ TO ME

Somewhere in the middle
Of an empty dream
You feel your heart
Come apart at the seams
Just before the tears
And after the screams
That's when you come runnin’ to me

You fell into the shadow
Of his clever lies
You never saw through
His thin disguise
Now the fire has turned to ice
In his heart and your eyes
And you come runnin’ to me

(CHORUS)
You come runnin’... You come runnin’
Tryin’ in vain to rise above all the pain
You come runnin’ to me

Here you are again
Standin’ at my door
You wash over me
Like a wave hits the shore
And I'll get burned again
Like I been burned before
When you come runnin’ to me

Oh the loneliness
In your eyes is for real
Emptiness and pain
Are all you can feel
As you beg for the love
You know I can't conceal
When you come runnin’ to me

You come runnin’... You come runnin’
Broken like a child and it drives me wild
When you come runnin’ to me

I'll gather you in
And I'll make it alright
We'll share a little passion
On a cold dark night
But I know you'll gone
In the dawn's early light
When you come runnin’ to me

You come runnin’... You come runnin’
It sure ain't the first time and it won't be the last
That you come runnin’ to me

80 MUCH TO DO

So much to do...so little time
So many mountains I've yet to climb
So many ups...so many downs
So many people ...so little common ground

So many words pass through my pen
So much starting all over again
In a world where nothing ever seems real
It's hard to touch what you truly feel

So many children
See how they grow
So much to tell them
Before they know
How to believe in a
World gone wrong
How to sing out
When they feel their own song
How to hold onto love
When all the love seems dead and gone

So many people I've yet to know
So many heartaches yet to lay me low
So much confusion to suffer through
So many broken dreams before one comes true

So much to do in a single life
Too little harmony and too much strife
All we can do is fight the good fight
All we can do is hold onto each other tonight

So many lovers
How they come and go
You think you're close to them
But do you ever know
Just what secrets
They have to hide
Just how much love
They have been denied
Just what they might
Really be feeling inside

(CHORUS)
So much to do...so little time
So many mountains I've yet to climb
So much to do...so much to say
I've got the fever and it won't go away

NOBODY KNOWS

Nobody knows
What you're feeling Inside
Nobody knows
Those emotions you hide
Nobody knows
How long it might take
Til your fragile heart

Begins to break

Nobody knows
The burden you bear
Nobody knows
And hardly anybody cares
You worship some god
That you've never known
You take it on faith
That we're not here alone

(CHORUS)
But nobody knows
What the future will bring
Nobody's guess
Really means a thing
So we roll the dice
Trying to beat the bell that tolls
But nobody knows
Nobody knows, nobody knows

Nobody knows
How this all came to be
Nobody knows
What rules you and me
If you're looking for answers
Start looking inside
Find your own compass
Be your own guide

‘Cause nobody knows
What the future will bring
Nobody's guess
Really means a thing
Life is a game
You learn how to play
It’s all up to you
It's always been that way

TOUCH & GO

All the bridges I have crossed
Are burned
All the lessons life has taught me
I've unlearned
The only answer that makes sense
IsI don’t know
Everybody's life is touch and go

Everybody wants to be
Your friend
But is it just another means
To their end?
So many liquid questions
Freely flow
Everybody's life is touch and go

(CHORUS)
Everybody's getting out of town
Al the right side up is upside down
Everything is shifting to and fro
Everybody's life is touch and go

All I want is something
To believe
But everybody's got a trick or two
Up their sleeve
Makes me all confused about
Friends and foes
Everybody's life is touch and go

Nobody hangs around
For very long
Nobody ever admits
When they are wrong
Everybody's swimming
Against the flow
Cause everybody's life is touch and go

One of the most important things I have learned about writing is that any type of writing you attempt, whether it turns out to be crap or good, is something that is going to help your writing overall.
I started writing lyrics as an experiment in a more disciplined form of writing verse poetry, which is where I started writing in the first place. I figured I could use some discipline.
As it turned out, I fell in love with the form and have produced close to 400 lyrics like those seen here.
But overall, the discipline of writing of poetry and lyrics is something that has definitely affected my approach to writing in other areas. One hand washes the other so to speak.
Here is a selection of fairly recent lyrics I have created. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it.

The truth is that with the taste of lyrics and poetry, one can simply attempt writing in other areas. Great, laudable work!

We're working on that Franci Eugenia Hoffman. I'm working my my pal Ivan Boudreau (he's in Vancouver). He's already got two or three of them done.

Great lyrics Jim. If I could pull myself away from beBee and pick up my guitar, there may be some music. For example, Rising and Fallen started a rift in my mind inspired by the Allman Brothers wailing out "I got one more... silver dollar..."
