Fighting Trump With Humour…Who Knew How Effective It Could Be?

The world has never really seen a president of a major democratic country who possesses all the insane characteristics of Donald Trump.

I have been watching Trump for a number of years, and really thought he was nothing more than another preppie asshole trust fund brat. It never occurred to me that anyone in their right mind would take him seriously outside of the people he was fucking over in business.

I mean there really was no reason to take him seriously, because he was always something of a cartoon. So earnestly confused about his politics, so highly opinionated about world affairs based on what ‘a lot of people’ were saying. And always starting businesses that would inevitably be proven fraudulent or outright failures.

The great comedian and political satirist Lewis Black, once said “Nobody should ever trust Trump for one simple reason…He bankrupted a casino. This is something that is almost impossible to do.”

He has bankrupted many businesses and is literally in litigation in more than 100 lawsuits. And the thing that makes it all so crazy, is that in his fucked up noggin, all of this somehow makes him some sort of successful entrepreneur and titan of the real estate industry.

There really is no one in the world with any kind of intellect who honestly believed that his bid for the presidency was nothing more that a PR stunt to build his sagging brand. The reason for this is that he had already thrown his hat in the ring one time before and that one was, true to form, a joke.

But while you might easily conclude that Trump really is an idiot, and a despicable one at that, you do have to respect the fact that there was a machine behind him that basically gave him all the ammo he needed to tap into the huge number of disgruntled, poorly educated Americans whose jobs were disappearing, mostly through automation, at an alarming rate.

On the flip side his people made it clear that Russian interference in the election through digital and social media paths was most welcome, while at the same time assuring donors that he would make it a virtual paradise for big business by getting rid of a lot of the regulations that were actually keeping the country from becoming a shithole, which many will argue, it quickly is becoming now start to see the results of this deregulation start to manifest.

Once he got into power, he really became arrogant and spiteful and began systematically undoing many of the policies that his predecessor had created.

A lot of people will argue that he is a racist, sexist, misogynist, egomaniacal, chronically narcissistic creep. And that’s all probably true. Still more will tell you he is in debt up to his eyeballs to the Russians and that’s probably true too.

Trump Loyalty: It’s Brain(wash) Thing

But you know what? None of that seems to matter to the base of people who support him. And there is a very good reason for this.

His values, as despicable as they are, are their values too. For a long time, these people have had to repress their feelings of frustration and racism and all the rest. But now they no longer do because they have a cheerleader out there telling that he cares about them. And so they care right back.

It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t give a shit about them. It doesn’t matter that the few policies he has established have no tangible benefit for them. And it really doesn’t seem to matter to these poor lost souls that Trump’s loyalty to his country or commitment to the job he was elected to do is nowhere to be seen.

True to his nature, he continues to be a cartoon. You will have to look very hard for a country on this planet that respects him. You will have to look even harder for a country who is willing to do anything but exploit America if they can. And you will have to use a microscope to really identify any sort of benefit that has accrued to the mass of American people so far from this presidency.

Many will argue that the economy is booming and the market is reaching all time highs. But the former is, as dozens of economists will tell you, merely the continuation of the Obama era economic policies and really has had no tangible positive effect on income. And the latter is of literally no consequence to the 80% of Americans who simply cannot afford to invest anyway,

And so here we are. Two years into an insane presidency. All the venom has been released and all we have left is the abject ridiculousness of it all. And the slight glimmer of hope that the Democrats will somehow bring an end to all of this. Cold comfort.

However, on the upside, the humourous vein that has been tapped in people as a result this total ridiculousness, is really one of the key things that helps most of us retain our sanity in these trouble times.

This isn’t just an effective vent for the terminally frustrated…it’s also one of the main things that Trump bitches about in the endless stream of tweets that Stephen Miller writes for him.
