How would various sectors operate without welding? Industries such as Automotobile rely heavily on welding to actualize their manufacturing plans. They use welding to design the cars the way they want them to be. Since the 20th century, welding has been the core of global economic development.

It has also contributed immensely to the revolution of various sectors. A good instance is the manufacturing industry, which utilizes welding technology in almost every aspect. It’s worth noting that the revolution of welding through electricity has seen the emergence of three arch welding methods. They include;

  • TIG
  • MIG
  • Stick welding

Without arch welding, the aerospace, construction, and motor industry would not manufacture or produce any products. The world would be lagging in terms of economic and socio-economic revolution.

The three arches above rely on consumable and non-consumable electrodes to join different metallic parts. Joining of the metallic parts can only occur by depositing a melted metal. Alternatively, the melting of the metal can help in joining the parts.

Since the rise of welding, there has been the integration of various techniques to make it better. For instance, MIG welding and 3D printing have been impactful to each. Even though the realization 3d printing happened late in 2010, both have evolved over, time and now they are better.

Besides, the similarity between 3D printing and welding arises because of the deposition of metals when welding. This article focuses on how various welding techniques and other strategies impact 3D printing. Below is how welding will impact 3D printing.

1. Maximization of Parameter

Some people may not be aware that there are ways of optimizing process parameters, especially in AM parameters. Even though there is no specific limit for each Parameter, there is adequate optimization space to achieve the expected results.

That applies to the key process parameters such as hatch distance and movement speed, and power. Hatch distance and metal radius are essential in determining the vital quantities for 3D printing. That illustrates how it’s revolutionizing 3D printing.

2. Will help in controlling 3D printing Microstructures

An experienced welder understands how controlling microstructures of the fusion area during welding is critical for a good weld. The methods that are applicable when controlling microstructures are are transferrable to 3D printing too. You should also be aware that heat source is critical in welding and 3D printing. That’s because it determines the amount of material to be deposited.

The above cases highlight how welding techniques will affect 3D printing technology. You can predict that the future of 3D welding is bright, considering how the strategies are of significant impact.
