Life expectancy by country

Life expectancy by country

The World Health Review has an interesting website. At the website, you can look up information on your country and you can compare to other countries to see how you are doing in a number of areas. I did a comparison between Canada and the United States. Here are the results, which I thought were interesting, especially life expectancy at various ages. I found it interesting that although we have the same top three diseases, Heart Disease, Alzheimer/s Lung Cancer our rates per 100,000 population was so different. Lung Cancers were similar in rate per 100,000 population and I suspect that our obsession with smoking in the last century has a part to play in this statistic.

I also found it interesting that a child born in Canada today has a longer life expectancy than a child born in the US. At birth, a male child in Canada can expect to live until they are 80.9 years and a female can expect to live until she is 84.7 years. While in the United States a male child born today can expect to live until he is 76 while a female child born today in the USA can expect to live until she is 81. I am a male in my 70's and I live in Canada so I was encouraged to see that, with good health, and by taking care of myself I should expect to live until I am 88.5 years old. Now I know that there are a lot of variables in the statistics, but as I plan the next stages of my retirement I can anticipate a few more years.
