Magnet for Magnificent Minds

Magnet for Magnificent Minds

My personal modus operandi at my college toastmasters club is the value that emanates right through the core of my central nervous system, which is the kind of club I resonate with is one that becomes a magnet for magnificent minds.

That modus however does not exist on the vestiges of command and control or the attraction of people through the manipulation of marketing - otherwise what I am attracting is a cult rather than magnificence.  It is like a black hole, this is the ultimate force of nature which sucks in everything the universe can potentially create, but it does not hold that energy like an emotional prisoner or a mental slave - it releases just as much creative energy into the universe.

Any popular portrayal of a blackhole does not focus on its creative role in the universe but generally on its destructive role, as if a black hole is merely a collapsed star or a space-time warp in the middle of galaxies.  What we do not understand we either sensationalize or we create science fiction about.  What black holes should teach us all is the humility that even scientists are at the beginning of discovery and like the human brain, we know only that we presently know and so we are at the early beginnings of knowledge here and not a complete body of knowledge.

If there can be humility in the scientist community about what scientists do not know, there can be humility at the level of a college toastmasters club and that humility releases itself as creative learning.  This means we begin to focus on the wonder of discovery far more than we focus on the fear of the unknown.  Magnificence begins nothing and turns into something.

The forces that bring something truly great into being are therefore never in our own hands and even those who receive the blessing of opportunity can be apt to waste that opportunity.  Just because we think we can, does not mean we can.  This calling is visited on a few and fewer still actually turn this calling into something special.

When we are trying to scale something huge what coalesces around that scaling is emergent.  That is why I focus more on emergence and far less on control.  As a controlled property we can enslave and imprison a particular idea to create an organization and when we do, the properties of it contain this manipulation.  Then there is stuff that self-organizes as an expression of freedom and that is a natural magnet for magnificent minds - and this coalescing is better than winning on a lottery ticket, it is more of a ticket to ride in the spirit of the Beatles.

The Beatles as a phenomena was a great example a magnet for magnificent minds and what emerged may have touched many lives but at the smallest scale this is a handful of people and when I translate this to the club level, this is the reality of a John meets a Paul, who meets a George who then all meet a Ringo.  The chances of this magic happening in the form of command and control is the difference between the phenomena that was the Beatles compared to the talent that was the Yardbirds.  The magnificence here is in the phenomena not the talent.  The mistake we all make is that we see the phenomenal at the global level rather than at the local level.  We are sucked into the command and control of fame rather than the emergence of meaning where the universe exists as a magnet for magnificent minds.

When we turn that magnet into something we worship, we are not appreciating the emergence of magnificence, we are prostrating ourselves to the creation of idolatry.  There is money to be made in that idolatry and I do not care for it, it does not move me to create a new religion or a "personal jesus" or at least the way Depeche Mode made sense of our personal foibles :

The end product of these outcomes of command and control are all the music that was ever created to criticize or comfort the human condition.  There is no magnificence in that just the hard bite of reality, which we then tend to offset through positive thinking and all the therapy a rational human being is capable of unleashing to contain the resulting warping from control.

The great thing about the opening of the door of network intelligence is when intelligence is the emergence rather than the control.  As control intelligence is the instrument of the machine and therefore the network is "intelligent" - and there is no magnificence in that definition of intelligence.  It is not even remotely intelligent.  Then as emergence there is the organic reality of our nature.  Here I begin to look for magnificence, while realizing that the magnet is not what I desire but an emergence which we call a blessing.

In the world of organizational life Ralph Stacey is a mind that I find highly emergent - in that he has a better handle of what I think of as magnificence and therefore at least in the form of media, this is magnetic - but the moment I try to control life and try to be the magnet myself - the faster I lose the possibility of magnificence and witnessing the evolution of a club that transforms into a magnet for magnificent minds.  Pray the day that this becomes my blessing.

In recognition of expression #1 dear Ali Anani I know two things via the research of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi that truly creative people cannot touch upon the source of their creativity and any formula or prescription for creativity is inadequate replica of what is vital about us. I also discovered through Mihaly's book flow, a frame of reference that turned my chaotic mind into orderly spirit. Whether it is introvert-extrovert, light-dark, rich-poor, I have been lucky enough to touch the full expanse of these ranges. Being in a state of flow without wanting something from that flow is helpful and not knowing what I want is helpful. One can only explain the formula, but in the meaning of being is what I greatly appreciate. Along the way I have been blessed to receive love rather than define and possess love, as flow and not as a want. http://www.pursuit-of-happiness.org/history-of-happiness/mihaly-csikszentmihalyi/
