My Poem NATURE’S MEDLEY Published on Spillwords Press July 21, 2021

flower moon blooming
spirits dance with budding stars
embracing desire
and the dawn begins
a playful sun shares its warmth
paradise nearing
the marmalade gold
daybreak yields warmth to the earth
raindrops fall soothing
skyward gaze idle
yonder moon and stars slumber
coddle my soul, as
I feel the music
of bird songs through swaying trees
my thoughts drift silent
(poetry form Haiku chain)

Thanks for the explanatory notes, Franci, and good luck with your handy haiku hobby. I’ve since had a look at more haiku examples on line and it’s definitely not for me. I’ll stick to rhyme with a modicum of punctuation, rhythm and the odd rhetoric.

Haiku is my favorite poetry form because it is a challenge to express thoughts with brevity. There can be more than one haiku to compete the entire poem, sometimes referred to as a double haiku or if more
than two haiku poems, a haiku chain. And, there are even briefer forms of haiku at 3-5-3, which can also be referred to as Micropoetry.
With that said a haiku is not just 3 lines with words. Explanation below per one of my expert haiku bloggers.
A form with 3 or more lines following the short-long-short, 3-5-3, 2-3-2, (5-7-5 traditional) approximately twelve syllables. Haiku are written about nature, the seasons, a beautiful moment in nature, an emotional experience while in nature, or change. No title. No rhyming.
So there you go, and so it goes…

I have very little experience or knowledge of haiku, Franci, but am not really a fan of this style to date, which traditionally only comprises three lines in a single 5/7/5 stanza and hence, in my uneducated opinion, appears to sacrifice much for simplicity and brevity. What are your thoughts, Franci, on this style, from a poet’s perspective, and your expansion of the style into multiple stanzas?
