Phone: 289 687Today, unlike a lot of other days in my life, I woke up with nothing on my mind.

It was the first time in a long time that this has been the case. Usually I wake up with all kinds of shit bubbling in my brain pan. And it’s really just a matter of applying the brakes and letting that spill out onto the digital page.

A little while back I wrote a piece on free form writing, which I guess you could call this. I have no idea where this is going. I only know that regardless of the direction it takes, it will undoubtedly end up somewhere. https://www.bebee.com/producer/@jim-murray/my-personal-philosophy-of-free-form-writing

Having nothing to write about is actually a good position to be in. It means that my mind is clear and uncluttered. This may have a lot to do with the fact that, for the most part, last night I watched only baseball and football. Both games were nothing to write home about. But I kind of sought refuge in them.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. The new business I have started with Charlene Norman (Bullet Proof Consulting) has taken me, as a writer, into uncharted territory, writing blog posts that support our core message in a context that I am not used to writing in.

Everybody has their sweet spot in business. Most of my business writing had to to with communications, because that’s what I do. But lately I have had to broaden that out and start writing about business analysis, corporate systems, and a plethora of other stuff that comes from the side of my brain that I hardly ever use.

It’s interesting, because writers tend to find anything new to be interesting, but I have to admit, it’s kind of exhausting too.

As many people who follow me know I usually write at a bit of a breakneck pace. This is fairly easy to do when what you are writing about is all pretty much in your head. But this hard core business stuff is a horse of a different colour.

I actually have to think about what I’m doing. And it’s real work. Not impossible. Just different and a bit more demanding. So for me, it’s fairly easy to become obsessed with it.

But until it becomes second nature, and I can spout off as comfortably in that area as I do in my own area, I have slowed down.

I don’t really mind the slowing down. Although it really has managed, over the past couple of weeks, to take me right out of my routine, which a lot of writers will tell you is kind of important.

It’s a lot like I have gone back to school and am taking a course on business administration or some other right brain thing.

So for anyone who is a bit concerned that I’m not as ubiquitous as I usually am, that’s the reason. I’m still writing, but a lot of it is going to populate our web site. (www.bulletproofconsulting.ca), with something called cornerstone content, which is supposed to make Google and Yahoo fall in love with you and attract lost or troubled business owners to a site where two big brain consultants will make it better.

So I’m a consultant now. I think I’d better get out and buy some suspenders and a seersucker suit. Ooops sorry, that’s a southern lawyer. :)

Jim, An interesting free flow piece from you. While I too am in business writing its the longer form corporate history/story type of writing. I find whenever i start a new project I have to resist the urge to write too soon as I need to research, read, interview people, think, dig some more, think some more and not jump to the solution (the content outline) too soon as I'll probably miss something, usually important. So slowing down to read more widely and not read at all is a good thing. So is getting out and talking/interviewing people to seek different perspectives and get new ideas. Looking forward to the 'new, improved' Jim, I think. Jaqui

#4 #5 #3 and Jim Murray -- this scene keeps running in my head. Jim Murray, the Consultant, walks into the office of a prospective client, who happens to be a Millennial. The prospect says, "So, what would you say is the one negative thing about you that I may have difficulty dealing with?" Murray says, "Sometimes I can be too honest and forthright about how I feel." To which the prospect replies, "Gee, I don't think that's really a negative quality". And Murray comes back, "Well, I don't give a shit what you think!" LOL! :-)

Jim Murray, I almost said something about being empty-headed, but I decided not to. Regarding your new uniform, don't forget the fedora hat, white bucks or penny loafers, some really loud socks and bow tie. wait. Almost sounds like you'd be selling popcorn.
